Available tools?

I noticed on gyre's run, there was a box with enemy data. Is that an available tool that anyone knows of?

Also, to what extent are tools like that allowed without counting as tool-assisted? e.g. A tool to track damage per enemy to help remember which to attack? A tool to visually display encounter data to help remember your steps? Etc. Just curious where the line is drawn

I'm guessing as long as a human is processing the data and sending the inputs manually through the controller then it is ok? As a hardcore tinkerist this is something I'm always concerned with though.

hi. I can't say anything on tools (since I'm new too) but gyre's box of enemy data is a part of a bot he made for a game for his chat called "Fantasy Final Fantasy." If I recall, the bot watches the stream and using image recognition software matches the text/image of the enemy on screen to display the info that's shown.

OttogiCurry, From my understanding of speedrun tools, typically there wouldn't be an issue with a tool that provides information about the game so long as it's not modifying the game play, hardware or telling you what decisions to make. Additionally I suspect you would not be allowed to use anything that displays an overlay on top of the game.

In the case of gyre's tool it is watching the stream and displaying information about the encounters to benefit the viewers. As such it's not anything that he is using for the run himself.

For FF1 on the NES most any tool you need is going to be with helping you route your path through the game. If you're in need of anything like that I have a tool that I've just posted and a lua script that works with emulator. Additionally there is tons of help available on the discord channel should you need it.
