A few things to note about Speedrunning Dreamscaper.
The Leaderboards run off the in-game timer so knowing when the Timer does and does not pause can be helpful to get a better time. Pausing the game and Menuing does stop the in-game timer. This means Pausing the game to Quit or Abandon the Run does pause the timer. Also, any other Menuing that you can do will pause the in-game timer. This mean: Looking at your invntory, Picking up equipment to compare, Changing friends between floors, Menuing you do in the Enchant Room, Loading times between floors, ect. The timer does not stop if you are simply standing in the shop/enchant/event room or the loading transition between room whether it's through a doorway or fast traveling. If there is an aspect you are unsure about whether the in-game timer is running or not, the cooldowns of Lucid attacks also run on the same timer. You can test yourself to see if it stops or not.
You can also enable/disable some items in the pool from the Sketchbook. This will help reduce RNG during a run to help you find more useful items. Note that you can equip your loadout with items that you have disable too if you think that may be necessary.
Using your Awakening does refill your Lucid meter. This helps a lot during boss fights and your main source of damage is your Ranged attack. So for example: during a boss fight, deplete your Lucid meter from your Ranged attack, then activate your Awakening to refill it so you can continue using your Ranged attack.
There is an Auto Recycle done for the whole floor except the boss room (for some reason) when you proceed to the next floor. The means you will recycle all potions and equipment that is left on the ground as well as collect any sand that you have not gathered yet. Sand collected is gathered at the increased rate of what ever your +% is when you proceed to the next floor. This can be advantageous when the boss room gives a Nest Egg which is +100% sand. The Auto Recycling will double all the sand if you hold that Keepsake. However, Items that sit in the 1, 2, 3-Pick Treasure Rooms are not 'technically' on the ground. Therefore they will not be recycled. However, Items drop from the Monoliths like Challenge, Puzzle, and other Treasure Rooms will get recycled as long as to 'open'/touch them.
As of writing this, a lot of your time during a run is spent clearing the monsters in a room. So having a fast strategy that minimizes that time spent is vital. This is where having Ranged Weapons with the +2 Projectiles or Ricochet 1x comes in very good use. The Frisbee comes with Ricochet and Kunai comes with +2 Projectiles naturally, but some other weapons can also reforged to get one of these effects like Optic Sear. Of course, you can get the Keepsakes Photocopy (+2 Projectile) and Pinball Machine (Ricochet 1x) for this effect as well. Another notable Keepsake you want early on is Compass so you know where you need to go each floor. Also Nest Egg so you can gather a lot of sand quickly so you can max out your equipment as soon as possible. You would like to see an Enchant Room before the 4th floor otherwise room clearing becomes very long. If you can start a run with one of these Keepsakes or find one very early, especially the Compass, then you should be able to have a viable run on your hands. You can reset a run immediately after entering by selecting "Abandon Run" to try and start with Keepsakes you want to see.
