Question about a speedrun I saw a decade ago

I saw a speedrun from 2015 (it's not from me) that uses the Hot Top Volcano wrong warp to get to the hub in two-player mode, getting to the Future Fun Land lobby in a plane, and flying through the upper terrain to skip everything and race Wizpig 2 as the only race finished in that run. Given the run I saw was just over five minutes long and possibly could have been sub-5 minutes, there has to be something about it that the leaderboards frown upon given that I couldn't find a single full game run with a time like that or lower in any category. Can someone please enlighten me as to what from this isn't allowed?

The run I saw is below.

The main thing is that it requires multiplayer (which isn't in the rules for some reason; that should probably be changed as nothing else is explicitly disallowing it for Any%). The other thing, though, is that it just isn't a very interesting category to optimise, with the category basically just coming down to the wrong warp and Wizpig 2. This has kind of been reflected by the fact that nobody from the speedrunning community has really tried the category as far as I'm aware. Additionally, the most convenient version to run this on would be US 1.1 (which ensures the WW always leads to the Overworld), which is a relatively rare version; almost everyone has a JP and/or PAL cartridge instead. I would definitely recommend the mod team make an addition to the game rules regarding multiplayer, but otherwise that's kind of the state of things; unfortunately it seems unlikely any significant interest will form around this category at this stage, especially due to the version thing.

This style of Any% is usually referred to as "2-Player Glitched Any%" where two controllers are used, as well as needing another save file with progression on it for this glitch to work. By doing the Wrong Warp in Hot Top Volcano with two players, the game will bring you back into the overworld of a temporary save file that is constructed of two different save files. In the instance of the video above, the game is pulling data from file slots 1 and 2. Historically, runs that require more than one save file have been frowned upon, as most runs are usually "New Game" runs. Seeing as this route requires two save files to be completed in this fashion, it cannot really be classified as a "New Game" run. However, with it's unique nature, it can certainly be run on it's own board separate from the traditional Any% route despite needing more than 1 save file to be completed. I believe the main reason for there being no board for this route is due to how little intrinsic skill is needed for the run. Over 25% of the run is waiting in cutscenes, and there's only a few areas of significant time save, so it's simply not the most interesting run compared to others, but that's my opinion. I've always been a believer that if people find a run/route cool and interesting, even if there is no board to submit to, I encourage those runners to still run it! Like Leah mentioned above, very few people over the lifetime of this community have posted about doing runs of this route, so there's never been any real demand for a dedicated board as there were so few runs. We recently added 6 new categories to this SRC page though as there were some cool runs/routes thought up and the community did a lot of serious grinds for them, so new boards were added! I would guess that if this run gets a lot of traction it will also have a board added for it here as well!

Thanks to everyone for playing the new level categories!

A quick update regarding the new 1-Lap categories for Taj Challenges and Wizpig 1; all 1-Lap submissions must be performed on Lap 2 of these races going forward. This allows us to use the more accurate in-game timer's printed lap time instea
