Hey there ginja! So sorry for this super late reply, the DKL community isn’t exactly what you’d call active >.<
This is a tough question to answer because I know that the Switch runs at a slightly faster framerate than the native Gameboy, SGB2, & qualified emulators. This means that your final time will be ever so slightly off, & would need to be converted.
There is a time conversion link in the “rules” section on the leaderboards, however I believe it currently only converts times for SGB, 3DS, & PAL versions. No NSO conversion has been added yet.
Another difference worth mentioning is that the gameplay is ever so slightly different. Very precise timings will be a little different, with either a smaller/larger input window for certain things. I believe I’ve also read that jump height is slightly less on faster framerates. In short, precise techniques would likely be more difficult & less consistent.
Conclusion: Yes, NSO runs are allowed. However, if you wish to compete for a top spot on the leaderboards you would need to have a conversion formula or use a different platform. It’s certainly a fine way to practice & learn at the very least.
NSO savestate & rewind features would obviously not be allowed. Given that it’s a very accessible feature, it would make for a tiresome verification process for the admins as well.
This is actually an extremely interesting topic. Many other speedrun communities opt for the fastest possible hardware, which in the case of DKL would theoretically be the SGB.
For example, most Playstation 1 games are optimized on PS2 slim 75/77/90k models. So for those games you’d have to get that specific hardware to have a viable time. Afaik those communities don’t even bother with conversions from other platforms.
