DW2 Any% Route (Vaccine Start)
Updated 5 months ago by PrincessRescuer

A new route is being worked on involving a Kabuterimon. The idea is to Paralyze enemies in order to make them lose lots of turns. This route is a work in progress. Please refer back to this guide whenever it develops. If you want to find the previous Vaccine Route, look back on "Previous Routes" in the Forums. If you want to find the current route for optimal WR attempts, look at SmartBall's Virus route.

There are two versions in Digimon World 2: Japanese and English. English is the optimal version to use due to the Japanese version being prone to inexplicable softlocks. Plus the text and some of the animations are a bit faster in English. Little is known about the Japanese differences, though it's best to stick to English.

Here is the route up to BIOS Domain. This is as much of the route that has been completed.

Time to start the run. When naming things, press Start and then X to instantly name things without changing anything. Memorize the text and when to do this at the beginning when naming your protagonist. You could also delete letters so it's only the first letter, but it doesn't save enough frames throughout the run compared to instantly confirming it.

In the Boot Domain, Run Away from the first battle. In the Boss battle, Seadramon attacks Leomon while the other two attack ToyAgumon first, then Veedramon on the second turn. No Misses should happen. If you Miss, it's early enough in the run for it to be a good time to Reset.

Now we're going to go to the first real Domain- SCSI. Not yet- you are going to need enough Energy Points (abbreviated as EP) to make it through. Go to the Mechanic and buy a Crab-BAT2 so you can begin the Domain with 200 EP. It only costs 100 BITs, so you can afford it just fine. Don't buy anything else though.

Having 200 EP isn't enough- you also need to know how to not waste it. Before the Boss, Hagurumon, your Agumon needs to be Level 2 at least- and you will need to run into enough enemies to get there. You may have to go out of your way to get these, so here's how to do it wasting the least EP possible- first of all, make a beeline to the exit. If you see that something is a dead end, turn back immediately. Also, make educated guesses as to how long the corridors are, remembering where rooms were compared to other rooms. And generally, if you find the room with the floor portal, take the first opportunity you get. Even better if the portal is in the same room as some enemies, which it is sometimes. Only go slightly out of your way of the portal room if you still need to level up on Floor 3.

Now we're going to confront the boss, Hagurumon. One mechanic in this game is that a Digimon's HP and MP are restored when they level up- so make sure you level up right before Hagurumon, since you will finish this domain only with Agumon.

Agumon, on its own, is not powerful enough to outdo Hagurumon- though at the start of the game, you are given two HP-Driver1s and an MP-Driver1. You will most likely have to use an HP-Driver against Hagurumon. Just keep attacking and use an HP-Driver when your HP gets low enough to not be able to survive another hit- you'll be able to recover HP before anything happens and attack in the same turn.

After you return to Gold Hawk Headquarters, you will have unlocked two new Domains. Don't travel to them yet- go to the Vendor on the right and sell your MP-Driver1, then buy 3 CD Players and 2 Wristwatches. Before the next Domain, don't forget to Transfer them into your Digi-Beetle. Items you get from chests in Domains will automatically go into the Beetle, but bought itmes will need to be Transferred. When Buying the Items, it's right, X down to the MP-Driver, X, Triangle, left, down down down, X, X, down, X, X, X. When you Transfer them, Triangle, right, X, right, X, and 5 X presses to Transfer the CD Players and Wristwatches followed by two Triangles to exit the Server and exit the Menu to go back to the main map or a room.

We will go to Disk Domain first. The goal here is to recruit two Digimon, ToyAgumon and Tentomon, and defeat the Boss in one go. In order to get the ToyAgumon, you will need two CD Players, while Tentomon can be recruited with one CD Player and both Wristwatches. One thing about capturing Digimon is that even at a full Heart (the biggest of three), Digimon will only join you 7/8 times (and they can reject Items in the first place too, and you will only have just enough to get both to a full Heart). Given the amount of Captures we must do throughout a run, the chance of this happening adds up, and provokes a Reset of the console and a restart of the entire Domain. If Items happen to be Rejected and there is the Medium Heart (or even a Small Heart), feel free to take your chances. We have to Capture two Digimon in Disk Domain, so that chance rises from 1/8 to 1/4 of the run not continuing. A Miss in Boot Domain will provoke a Reset, but this is a bit further in the run after a good Boot Domain, a good SCSI Domain, and good Shopping and Transferring with no mistakes, so it's up to you to decide if it's worth continuing the run or Resetting. You can collect a Toy Car on a Boss Floor for emergencies.

After that, you will be all prepared for the Boss: Sukamon, Numemon, and DemiDevimon. Target Sukamon with everyone first, then DemiDevimon, then Numemon. If two hits can defeat one and you can get one hit on the next, don't risk it- remember that missing attacks is a thing. At the end of this battle, you should have Agumon at Level 6, and the other two at Level 5. Don't forget to go straight forward and rescue Angemon before Auto-Piloting out.

Video Domain is next, but we aren't ready to go there- we have things to do first. Visit the Meditation Dome and Angemon will give you 2000 free BITs. Visit the Digimon Center and you will automatically Trade ToyAgumon for SnowAgumon. Go to Video Domain and make a beeline to the Floor Portals, avoiding battles along the way. With a full team of three, this will happen much easier. Instead, you need money more than levels at this point, so collect whatever Treasure you run into.

The Boss is Kokatorimon, and only Kokatorimon. This is normally a powerful Digimon for this point in the game, but it's a 3-on-1 battle. Attack the Kokatorimon over and over again for an easy win.

Next is going to the Tamer's Club to meet Mark Shultz, who will give you a free Toy Plane. You can also go to the Digimon Center and get a free Toy Plane from Chris Conner. Be sure to put both of them in your Digi-Beetle, as well as any Treasure you've collected.

Don't enter the BIOS Domain until you have 400 EP, which you get through buying and Installing 2 more Crab-BATs for 100 BITs each. On the Boss Floor of the BIOS Domain, you will want to Capture MetalGreymon with one of your Toy Planes. Before the battle, make sure each Digimon is Level 7.

Optimal strategies for the BIOS Domain Boss have not been determined yet.

This route is a Work in Progress. ZChaotix is working on a new route right now! He is working on multiple routes to see which one is better, so stay tuned for updates!
