New Update
The 1.0 Release dropped on May 1 - this update introduces tons of changes, adds tons of content, and creates powerful opportunities. That being said - I don't think the meta has shifted in a negative way. We'll continue to use the existing EA categories and co-opt them into the 1.0 leaderboard. If no one is able to challenge their PB or the WR, then we will look at resetting the leaderboard, but I anticipate that times can get faster now.
New Frog
A new annotation has been added to all EA/1.0 categories for the new playable frog, Nera. The leaderboard is very open! So go snipe some WRs!
🎉🎺SHOUTOUT to @ryebread4321 on the first Nera Speedrun🎺🎉
(he is the reason I actually needed to make updates to the leaderboard lol)
New Difficulty
A new annotation has been added to Any%, Score%, and Death% categories for the new difficulty, D8 "Decadent Deck". I know there will be that one guy - come claim your WR! (the rest of us will watch 😅)
Category Modifications
We've updated the Endless Floor categories to "Endless 10" for floor 10 and "Endless 30" for floor 30. This is primarily to conserve space on the top level categories for potential future leaderboard changes.
Upcoming Category Changes
Which brings us to the future - depending on interest and activity, I can see this going a few ways:
- True Ending: If we get, say, 3 runners with a true ending speedrun, ready to submit, we'll make this a category. We also need a catchy category name
- Score%: Needless to say, this category is not very popular. Historically, most EA Score% runs were accidental. I'm also anticipating some future changes to score calculation (maybe, possibly) so we may end up archiving this category
- Endless Speedruns: These are honestly a lot less active than we anticipated, and take up a lot of leaderboard real estate. If we don't get more attempts/activity in these categories, we might look at archiving these too, or at least moving them into the subcategory section.

New Update
The new dice-rolling events update, 4.4.0, has just dropped - and with it are more challenges and opportunities for speedrunning. We believe that the new events impact the meta enough to warrant a leaderboard reset.
Version Category Changes
- The version 4.2.3+ will now be renamed to 4.2.3-4.3.6
- A new default version will be created for 4.4.0+
- These changes will be made on the Any%, Score%, Endless Floor 10, and Endless Floor 30 categories
There are now tons and tons of spots to fill on the leaderboard, so submit a run now!

New Update
The new update 4.3.0, dubbed by the devs as the "Endless Summer Update", has included a brand new game mode for Endless Mode that can be started from floor 1 on the Main Menu.
This is wonderful news for those of us who remember speedrunning the Origins and Classic categories (or still are!) and we already have some really fast times posted.
There is also an "Abandon Run" button in the pause menu which will send you directly to the defeat screen for easier timing.

New Categories
As a result, we have added 2 new categories: Endless 10 and Endless 30.
Endless 10
The goal of this category is to beat the first 10 floors and boss fight on endless mode. This is similar to the feel of the NextFest Demo length and is slightly shorter than Origins. If you are looking for a quick sprint to dive into again and again, this is for you!
Here are the current rules for this category (remember all over full game rules still apply):
Start a run in Endless Mode. Abandon the run after the first boss on floor 10 is fully defeated and the first reward has been skipped
Endless 30
The goal of this category is to beat the first 30 floors and final boss fight on endless mode. This is similar to the length of a normal run and would be "Loop 0" of Endless Mode. The leaderboard is currently wide open!
Here are the current rules for this category (remember all over full game rules still apply):
Start a run in Endless Mode. Abandon the run after the boss (Mosquito Duke) on floor 30 is fully defeated and the first rewards have been skipped
Timing/Rules Updates
As the community got used to the new categories, the rules were slightly tweaked and updated, specifically on when you can abandon the run and stop the IGT. You must defeat the boss, and skip the first reward. Then the run can be abandoned.
I have retimed the runs that were submitted before this post to align them with the newest timing rules, but going forward all runs will be timed based on the IGT on the defeat screen.

New Update
The new update 4.2.3, affectionately known as the Healing Update, has included a Mango nerf that breaks the Flash/Heavy Cheese exploit.

Leaderboard Reset
In response, we have reintroduced the version subcategory to the leaderboard. This lumps all the previous major content updates into one option "Pre-4.2.3" which includes the Potion Update and all that came before. The new category 4.2.3+ starts with this Healing Update and will continue until the speedrun meta is substantially altered again.

Where are the Old Versions?
Hello! You may have noticed some changes to the Die in the Dungeon Speedrun.com Leaderboards.
In order to help better organize various game versions and categories, subcategories, and annotations, we've separated the older versions from the general Any%, Death% etc. categories and into their own Misc. Category Types. Just click the dropdown on the right side of the category selection to find them again.

I think this helps to organize and clear up the leaderboards in a way that makes more sense.
All of the speedruns have been migrated to their new homes, which was a lot of touching and editing. Great care was taken, but if you are worried about any of your runs being orphaned or metadata being incorrect, please reach out via DM or Discord.
What are all these old versions?
NextFest Demo
The NextFest Demo was a free demo released on Steam from June - November 2024. It is no longer available. There are three subcategories for the leaderboard Any%, Score%, Death%
Origins
Die in the Dungeon: Origins was a free Prologue/Demo released on Steam December 2023. It is no longer available to download on steam, but is still free to play on itch.io: https://atico.itch.io/die-in-the-dungeon-origins
There are three available categories of speedrun: Any%, Death%, Floor 50
CLASSIC
Also called Die in the Dungeon: Prologue, Die in the Dungeon: CLASSIC is an updated version of the original game-jam project that was released on Steam and on Itch in January 2023. The game is no longer available to download on Steam, but is still available on itch.io: https://alarts.itch.io/die-in-the-dungeon
There are 4 categories available: Any%, Score%, Death%, and Floor 50
1.0.0-1.4.0
This is the older builds of Die in the Dungeon, originally submitted for the January 2021 Brackeys Game Jam.
Older versions don't have an endscreen, time is calculated by external programs. Timer should start at the same time it does in newer versions.
What's Next?
Stay tuned! We have so many runners and runs on the leaderboard! There are quite a few people pioneering first WRs in various subcategories and annotations. I think we'll need to look into breaking the main categories up very soon. Thankfully, the organization just completed with the older game versions will make this much easier.
This means there will be that many more (official) first places!
New Milestones!
D1 Speedruns - Arson_Lupin kicked off the D1 Leaderboard, and then SmolWheat took it a step further with some impressive Lisver times!
D2 Speedruns - caden started off the D2 Leaderboard.
Lisver Any% - itschives has broken the Sub-7 mark!
Cinder Any% - itschives has broken the Sub-7 mark here too with an amazing run! itschives actually holds first place in all three frogs D0 Any%
Seven has also made a new record moving to the top of the Death% chart (the other end) with a Sub-6 run, Dying to the Mosquito Duke

New Halls of Fame
Discord hates my long posts, so I had to break up the Any% Hall. Or I may move them to a forum post here...

The Halls of Fame
I think it is important to celebrate the various firsts and milestones of the community. There's a good amount of that by default here on the leaderboard, but to help organize things, I've started some discord posts to act as the Halls of Fame. There's one for Any% and one for Score% - let me know if you think any other grouping makes more sense.
Any% Hall of Fame
This record covers the firsts for each Frog/Difficulty as they pass various notable time milestones. https://discord.com/channels/829107672912494613/1346669675693735966/1361679043489042463
Score% Hall of Fame
Getting 10000 score is not always easy. This post covers the milestones of runners in the Score% Category https://discord.com/channels/829107672912494613/1346669675693735966/1364019946501181440
Crazy Milestone
Speaking of crazy milestones - itschives has officially crossed the Sub-6 mark! It's insane that a full run which can take hours for a new player can be beaten in just a handful of minutes!
Upcoming Changes...
For the size of game that we are, I'm super impressed with the amount of active runners we have. In fact, the main Any% leaderboard is getting kind of full. I'd consider splitting up the run categories, maybe by Frog or Difficulty - let me know your thoughts.
I've also seen some interest in unique speedruns for challenges or so. If we can get a few runners interested in a new category and posting runs, I'd consider making some new Misc sections too.

New Update + New Relics
Here's a link below to the full announcement, but there were many new relics and curses added to the game (including a relic shoutout to Your's Truly). There's also quite a few modifications which, although slight may change the balance/meta for speedrunning.
Release Notes on Steam: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2026820/eventcomments/603026099853653570/
Milestone Reached: Sub 6.5 minutes!
Congrats to itschives for pushing the Any% category to a new milestone! Everyone take a moment to congratulate itschives for the impressive run, and then do a speedrun yourself to try to beat that time! >:)
New Meta Emerges for Lisver
Shoutout to Akiaji who has been pushing the Lisver speedruns into new territory, being the first to cross the sub-10 line with The Silver Lightning! Check out his runs, or hit up el loco on the discord #Speedruns to learn more.
New Annotation: Difficulty
I've added an optional annotation for difficulty (currently 7 different levels!) - a runner can have multiple times visible on the leaderboard as it will show the fastest time submitted per difficulty level. This annotation can also be filtered on - I'm interested in seeing what the fastest D6 run will be!
Spoiler warning I guess :)

Early Access Release Feb 21
In case you missed it, here is the link to the store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2026820/Die_in_the_Dungeon/
This version is the subcategory "EARLY ACCESS". We can consider adding build number as a filtering variable, but I don't think we will add another subcategory unless there are major changes before early access ends. Think of this leaderboard as growing and changing alongside the game.
There are already 4 runners doing the standard any%, score%, and death% categories, and I'm excited to see more!
Filter by Frog/Character
We are only a little beyond 1 week from launch, but the meta is beginning to assert itself hard (which I respect).
I've added variables to filter based on character, so they are all shown in the same leaderboard, but can be filtered (in case you are going for the record time on a specific character). Open to changing as we need in the future
Spoiler warning I guess :)
