In-Game Cheat Code

Hey y'all, TRGMorty/Ryan here. So I received a comment on the Die Hard WR Progression video I released a while back commenting on a in-game input on the pause screen that drastically speeds up the lock counter within the game. This effectively saves ~40 seconds on current strategies by completely removing the feet damaging and stair running parts of the run, at least on my immediate tests. I'm not sure if this was well known and already banned (because it's an in-game cheat/input?), or yet another thing we never knew (just like shooting down the door, thanks Arcus community). The input is just holding A+B+Select on the pause screen to quickly count down the timer, and a test run with this new strategy is linked below. I'm pretty indifferent on if this should be allowed or not as one of the only consistent runners of the game because while it does fully invalidate all previous runs, it also removes debatedly the easiest + repetitive part of the run.

Example Run:

Toronto, ON, Canada

that's amazing! I don't think that would count as an "in game cheat", either it was intended or this is some sort of testing left over they forgot to turn off. I would vote to allow in in the Any% category

United States

Wow, I wonder how long it's been on gamefaqs - I never checked.

If it's disallowed it should be mentioned in the rules but I'm indifferent for allowing it in Any% - it is nicer than running on glass and up/down steps though.

Japan

that's Excellent. I would like to see this allowed at any%.

Asking around, apparently it was already known and it's consider as a "debug code". Might be a separate category then if the mods agree with it

Canada

As someone who was only brought in later as a moderator and can't speak for the other/prior moderators, my assumption here is also that this falls under it being a cheat/debug code/etc. and would therefore not be allowed as part of the main Any% category. While I also personally didn't know about this code until this thread and agree that it's an amazing find, the cheat in question has been on these other websites for quite some time now. Like arnaud33200 said, it was probably known by the older runners at the time and if it wasn't allowed then, there's no reason it should be allowed now. Perhaps the moderators didn't feel the need to clarify not being allowed to use cheats in the rules back then, but it certainly can't hurt to add that rule in now.

If anyone's strongly against not allowing it in Any%, I'm open to read your feedback, but I definitely agree that this is neat enough to be its own miscellaneous Any% (Debug) category! :D

Yeah i think that would work ok

Maybe make two separate categories. One for "any%" and maybe "any% (menu glitch)" or something

Pennsylvania, USA

Yeah I'd agree that it shouldn't be allowed in any % since it appears to be a cheat code of sorts, but a separate category sounds fun!

Awesome, thanks for your cooperation and patience, everyone! I added "Any% Cheats" categories to the Misc. section, which you can find by clicking the (v) icon on the right side of the categories header, as seen below. Hope you all had another wonderful Diecember and GLHF with the cheat (and cheat-less) runs! :D
