Never played the PS1 version for more than a few minutes into it so this is a sort of blind speedrun. I did speedrun the PC version though.
The "loading times" in this game are hardcoded, so I used a turbo button for those (level transition, saving, loading). Basically the game runs at 10x speed during those.
I used a video editing software I had no prior experience with to retime without loads. Point out mistakes you find. It displays times as xx:xx:xx,xx which appears to be hours, minutes, seconds and frames (at 30 FPS). The video without loads shows as 3:14:10,02 which would be 3h 14m 10s 067ms.
So there's about 10m 12s of loading which would have originally been roughly 102m (a little less since I obviously didn't time my turbo perfectly, but we'll ignore that), meaning I saved 91m 48s of loading. Thus the time with loads would have been 4h 58m 10s.
Now we of course have to do some more math! Loadless time is ~11650s, with loads it would have been 17890s. 11650/17980= ~0.65 This means that I'd have spent about 1/3 of the run waiting on loads without turbo! Math sure is fun! Well, at least more fun than waiting on the game loads :^)
Info for mods (or people who wants to verify my results):
"Loads" removed:
- Level loads, timed as first frame of full black to first frame of not full black (the amount of black frames after the loading screen before the fading in begins seems to be inconsistent/random)
- Load for Lazarus' Lair, timed as the first frame of full black after the cutscene
- Savefile saves, timed as first frame of "Now saving" to first frame of "Game saved"
- Savefile loads, timed as first frame of "Now loading" to first frame of not full black after the level load
