After having internal discussion and receiving community input, the mod team is excited to announce a much-needed update to our moderation and run verification policies.

Rules update

The community rules have been updated with clearer language, wider coverage, and an introduction covering general intent and a discretion clause. Additionally, we will be handling cases involving evidence from outside our discord server on a case-by-case basis, where context is considered to ascertain whether a member is potentially harmful to the community.

To view the current community rules and ban appeal policy, please refer to this post: https://www.speedrun.com/destiny2/guides/n85oi

Submission bans

In the past, we have banned certain individuals from submitting to speedrun.com in rare extreme cases; now that we have created a clear and structured unban policy, we are expanding the scope of any ban to include submissions, whether solo or fireteam. Since this is a new policy and we don’t want to punish members retroactively, there are a couple caveats to note here:

  • Members that were banned before this announcement may still submit runs until March 10, 2026 in order to allow for unban appeal processing. After this period elapses, any and all banned members will not be able to submit runs.
  • Members who are unbanned may submit runs from during the period they were banned for once they are unbanned.
  • Members who choose not to join our discord server in order to avoid this policy will still have their runs rejected if they would otherwise be banned.

If you feel that your ban is unjustified, you can still message a moderator at any time to have your case reviewed. If there’s a mistake, we will of course handle it immediately without having you wait 30 days for something you didn’t do.

Unban Policy

  • After being banned, members cannot submit an appeal for at least 30 days.
  • After this 30-day period, banned members may message any member of the mod team to submit an appeal.
  • All appeals are to be voted on by the members of the moderation team.
  • An appeal's result will be communicated to the appellant when a decision is reached.
  • If rejected, members will not be able to appeal until another 30 days have elapsed.

Verifiers

Since this season is a bit drawn out and some community members have expressed interest in verification, we have decided to open verifier applications earlier than we normally do! We are currently looking to fill 3? spots, so if you’re interested, please fill out the form here: https://forms.gle/X3GM9bUEzms9okSm7

In addition, some community members have pointed out some issues with verification accuracy. In response, Aegis is working on a more straightforward verification guide for every category that will make it easier to spot timing mistakes as runners and to time runs correctly as verifiers, which can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19i8YG9y8FVTdMd-yOrcyOQb8GE68_jVMJNAlSUMq4NQ/edit?usp=sharing If you have any concerns about your run’s (or any run’s) timing, please do not hesitate to reach out to the verifier who timed your run or a moderator, if needed.

Overlay requirement

The mod team has reassessed its policy on input overlay requirements since the last time we discussed this a few years ago. At the time, we agreed that lowering the barrier to entry for submission was more important than the off chance that a macro was being used to make movement tech consistent. Today, runners have gotten more bold with their attempts to utilize macros and other tools in RTA runs, and the majority of runners that are using advanced movement tech are more than capable of using OBS and NohBoard in order to overlay inputs over their run.

As such, going forward we are going to require a standard left half of keyboard + mouse or controller input overlay for any potential top 3 runs that utilize excessive groundlines, relic groundlines, or diagonal/horizontal rocket grapples. In addition to potential macro checking, this will help combat macro usage concerns that have been brought up recently.

Greetings Guardians! We are excited to announce The Final Shape Speedrun Tournament, a cross-community event designed to bring us together for one simple goal - to go as fast as possible. For this event, Speedrun Panel and Lowman have come together to create a multi-day marathon filled with top level play from all corners of the hardcore community.

Once again, we will be joined by our beloved hosts evanf1997 and cbgray, as well as our own community hosts that will rotate throughout the days to give more insight. The dynamic duo have always been a pleasure to work with as well as a blast to have on the casting bench, and we are incredibly excited to have them join us for Destiny 2's premiere experience!

On top of this, we are re-introducing Bounties as a way for both runners and non-runners to get in on the action! Bounties are a set of optional tasks, both before and during the tournament, that are open to the public to attempt. All Bounty prizes will be an allocated amount of the prize pool, and we plan on releasing a list of the Bounties further down the line. All information based on bounties will be located in the #bounties channel so stay tuned!

Finally, we will have charity donations available for anyone who wishes to contribute! Similar to the previous Speedrun Panel tournament, there will be goals to hit for both days with charity donations that will extend the event. More information will be released throughout the coming weeks on how you can donate.

Greetings Guardians,

I have quite a bit of information to share with everyone, from formalizing new categories, upcoming mod meetings, and GDQ updates. But first, we decided to start using the News section on Speedrun.com (SRC) in conjunction with our Announcements page on our Discord. This will be a smaller version of our announcements where we will pick and choose big updates to provide to the community at large. So if you are wanting all the updates and to be connected with the community more, please join our discord at https://discord.gg/d2speedrun

Formalizing New Categories: Since the introduction of the Misc. page we have seen a few conversations around our process for adding new categories to the site. There are a few steps that need to be taken by the runner/community to show interest as well as go through the proper channels.

  • Create a suggestions post ON DISCORD for the category you wish to be added and any information you want to provide for how you envision this category
  • Have community discussion providing any feedback
  • Runners to show proof of concept (Decent/Good Runs) and willingness to run
  • After we see a fair number of runs (each category would be different depending on the nature of the category for the amount of runs we would be looking for) we add the category

Verifiers: We are still accepting verifier applications in roles if you are interested in becoming a verifier please fill out the google form. I haven't had a mod meeting discussing promotions/demotions yet so you still have time to get in your application. Expect this to be finalized in the next week or two.

Adventures: It is crazy to see how everything comes full circle! Back when I was a verifier, I was pushing for clutter on the site to be moved to a spreadsheet to improve QOL and ease of use for all. Since then we have been able to create a DCV site, this has allowed us to move all Adventures back onto the site and give those runners the recognition they deserve!

GDQ Hotfix: Everyone should come and support @Xemo a active runner within the D2 Speedrun Community as he has been chosen to participate in "GDQ Hotfix" on January 29, 2024 7:00 PM PST but he will likely be running closer to January 29, 2024 9:00 PM PST. For all information check out the link below! https://twitter.com/Xemoficus/status/1750021463212499045

Yearly Recap: It is crazy to look back and see how much we have accomplished in the past year with this community, from...

  • SRC's first major tournament (Raising 6k for charity)
  • Introduction of the DCV Page
  • Introduction of the Misc. Page
  • Path to staff team
  • Discord overhaul and re-organization
  • Moderator Forums
  • Auto Populated Runner Roles based on placement
  • Custom Migration Bot
  • Trial Mod Introduction
  • Townhalls
  • New Voice Channel Changes (More to come)
  • Reduced toxicity as a community
  • Raid Guides
  • Introduction of the bounty system
  • Multitude of rule QOL changes
  • Custom Vanity Link
  • 10,000 community members in this discord

Now these things are only some of what I could think of quickly off the top of my head, but none of it would be possible without the staff team we have been working on perfecting since the time I became a verifier and the community for being as passionate as you are for everything Destiny 2 Speedrunning. So here is to another year of growth!
