General Rule Philosophy

All site rules (maingame/category-specific) are created through two principles: **fairness** and **stability**.

**Fairness** refers to concurrent runners/teams having a level playing field. Examples of the fairness principle applied include wipe screen duration equalization, black screen / load timer pauses, and rejoin timer pauses.

**Stability** refers to current and future runners/teams having a level playing field with each other. While we cannot predict whether or not Bungie will patch something, based on past evidence, if it is obvious something will be patched or is being patched, you can assume it is not allowed in submitted runs (examples include Gahlran jump bait, Fourth Horseman slug damage glitch, and Winterbite chunking).

As mods, it is our responsibility to uphold these principles as best we can in order to ensure that the competition of speedrunning is kept as fair and impartial as possible. While we will do the best we can to foresee what Bungie may change, in the event that an unexpected patch fundamentally changes the speedrunning landscape, a category split will be used as a last resort to resolve the matter and keep competition going.

Moderation Policy and Ban Appeal Process

Given that we represents the social space of a large community seeking to be welcoming to all Destiny players, our rules promote a healthy environment in which runners and other community members treat one another with respect. The rules below are not exhaustive. If the moderation team determines that someone is not a good fit for the community, we reserve the right to remove members based on evidence, whether sourced from inside or outside the server.

### The following offences will be met with a warn/mute, then more severe action at the moderator's discretion:

- Spamming
- Trolling
- Channel misuse
- Instigating
- Disrespecting others
- Impersonation

### The following offences will be met with an automatic ban:

- Doxxing
- Harassment
- Hate speech
- Discriminatory behavior
- Punishment evading
- NSFW/pornographic content
- Advertising services without permission
- Hard cheating in any context
- Network manipulation in an RTA context

## Ban Consequences

Banned members will not be able to submit or be part of submitted runs to speedrun.com.

- Existing runs will not be removed unless they are found to be breaking the relevant game and category rules.
- Members who choose not to join our discord server in order to avoid this policy will still have their runs rejected if they would otherwise be banned.



## Ban Appeal Policy

- After being banned, members cannot submit an appeal for at least 30 days.
- After this 30-day period, banned members may message any member of the mod team to submit an appeal.
- All appeals are to be voted on by the members of the moderation team.
- An appeal's result will be communicated to the appellant when a decision is reached.
- If rejected, members will not be able to appeal until another 30 days have elapsed.

 If you feel that your ban is unjustified, you can still message a moderator at any time to have your case reviewed. If there’s a mistake, we will, of course, handle it immediately without having you wait 30 days for something you didn’t do.

Timing Runs

Timing runs is usually pretty simple, and can be done using a variety of tools. The basic procedure entails opening your video in an appropriate tool, whether that be a video editor, a Chrome extension, or an external site deesigned for timing. Once you do that, simply set the start and end frames of the run based on the category's ruleset, and use the tool's readout to determine what your time is.
