PS WARPS BANNED FROM ALL CATEGORIES BUT UNRESTRICTED (Read)
Posted 1 year ago by

Effective January 1st, 2023

After having a lengthy discussion in the community, we have unanimously decided to BAN the use of PS WARPS (or Activity Card warps) in ALL categories EXCEPT Unrestricted (aka Unrestricted Any% and SL1), for the sake of the speedrun's longevity.

While Demon's Souls Remake has stopped being updated since December 2020, the Playstation 5 Interface hasn't, meaning that the Activity Card feature has changed slightly over the last few years, generally making them slower and more inconvenient in a speedrun setting, to runner's annoyance. We've also known in the mod team ever since launch that this feature would not be sustainable for the leaderboard, since being online is required, it means eventually this feature will be defunct once Playstation decides to stop supporting the PS5, even if it's in the distant future.

However, we didn't want to completely remove it, as it's still a unique feature to this game, and has some quality of life uses that are nice (reduces run-arounds in Nexus, keeps CRR setups between worlds, etc). So we decided to allow them in unrestricted, as it's a category intended to beat the game as fast as possible with no restrictions, despite how broken some strategies are, not to mention that the name of the subcategory preemptively fits this change.

Previous runs using the PS Warps even in banned categories will NOT be removed from the leaderboard. We believe every category world record that used to use warps and are now banned should still be beatable without them, as there's enough room for improvement. There are also small finds that allow us sort of replace a handful of the PS Warps, easing the transition.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the #des-remake channel of the Speedsouls Discord.

About recent 1.05 patch, worry not!

So recently Demon's Remake got an unexpected 1.05 update after literally 4 years, but the Demon's gang immediately was on the case and started investigating; literally nothing changed for our purposes, it was primarily a patch for the soon-to-be-released Playstation 5 Pro, and as far as we can tell,
