2017 version (Steam) unable to get warp glitch to work

Hey, guys. I know this forum is for the NES version, but the PC version is not too active, and the games are supposed to be a 1:1 of each other, I think. Also, no runs in the glitched category as of right now.

I'm guessing that it's my execution, but I can't for the life of me get this glitch to work. I get to the Dr's office and I'm able to get the first warp to work, but the second just won't lol. I do get a menu option in the top-left of the move menu after continuing, which I don't see on other runs. Normally it's just blank.

Unless this version just isn't able to use the glitch, I gotta be doing something wrong.

The Anthology version from what I can tell is running on some kind of emulator with the unique exception of a mouse hack, which is the reason why it was separated from this board.

The capsule warp is a very peculiar glitch in that the accuracy required from the emulator is very high in order to perform it accurately. In fact, the previous route/setup of the glitch didn't work on original hardware (console + cartridge), but could work on an original console coupled with an flash cartridge, such as an EverDrive. Usually, it is almost always the case that there's some very fine quirk in the console that's not being properly emulated but in this case it actually turned out to be emulation of the mapper in the cartridge that was off.

While there are many, many NES emulators out there, only a couple will reflect the level of accuracy required by this glitch in particular (TASVideos has a listed comparison here). Naturally, for a release like this, the developers are unlikely going to spend the same time and effort of long-lived emulator project to chase a high level of accuracy when "good enough" will do just fine. This is most likely why the discrepancy exists.

This board reflects the original NES release of the game so anyone with an original console and cartridge should be able to compete fairly. Therefor, any glitch or route that does not work on such a setup will be banned from this board.

Since you're talking about the Anthology version, you may use a different setup for the glitch that may only work on that version for a run that you want to submit on that board, because that version becomes the frame of reference for that particular board.

I understand why you posted on this board but please feel free to make future posts on the Anthology board. While on the surface the games are seemingly identical, they were after all different enough under the hood to warrant a split. Posting in the right place will help other people in the future as well. You can also DM me if you have any further questions.

Thanks so much for your well thought out answer. I appreciate the feedback and the information :) I'll post over there for this kind of stuff from here on. Might as well throw my cart in and run the NES version as well. Thanks again, Enmet!
