Little update on the Loadremover, I'll be working on it in the next few days when I get access to the game so I am hoping to get a first version out by thursday. Further changes would then come as we see it in action.

Given that the boards have just opened up it might of course still be in development, but I'm curious if there is a loadremover being worked on for this game. If not I'd be able and willing to help out in that regard.

Best regards.

Since we do not know anything about how those new releases will work we do not have an answer for that at the moment. We'll know more after October 8th.

Did that right after, didn't see the ticket thing beforehand. Haven't gotten a response on it yet which is surprising as the other tickets I submitted before were solved within hours, though those were related to moderation.

Hello everyone,

I recently discovered a little glitch with the website that I managed to recreate earlier today. Whenever a moderator verifies a submission it gets a rank associated to it. However, if the run was verified incorrectly, for example "RTA" and "IGT" where mixed up or an incorrect time is entered, which then results in an incorrect placement, upon fixing said mistake the actual rank of the run will not be updated appropriately. Here are two examples I've encountered recently:

https://www.speedrun.com/crisis_core_final_fantasy_vii_reunion/runs/m7jo7w0m In Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - Reunion someone submitted a NG+ Any% (Console) run with both IGT and RTA. Given that IGT is not used for consoles but is considered the main criteria for ranking runs, this run was shown as the 1st place run until I realised my mistake and fixed the run. As you can see the run is still considered "1st" despite it actually being 11th place. The same goes for the "Recent Runs" column on the right side of the actual leaderboards, this one also displays the run being "1st". Only the leaderboards display the run correctly as such.

https://www.speedrun.com/kh3/runs/z5nw2knz Another example can be found in Kingdom Hearts 3. Upon verification, after correcting some stuff, I did not realise that the runner has unknowingly swapped their IGT and RTA times in their submission. This resulted in his run at that time not being an actual PB, rendering it obsolete. After fixing said mistake and swapping the times around it now reflects the run accurately in the leaderboard, but the run itself is still considered "Obsolete".

Both of these issues go as far as misrepresenting the run in their profiles as well. The Kingdom Hearts 3 run can only be found on the runners profile by choosing "Show obsolete" while the Final Fantasy Run is still considered "1st" when looking at the respective runners profile. Especially regarding the Final Fantasy run this also means that the actual WR run by Givralyriame is now considered "2nd" on her profile.

I'd be happy if this bug could be resolved as this can suverely misrepresent the runs actual placement within the "Recent Runs" column, as well as when checking out the run and the runners profile page.

Thank you for your time.

Any updates on this?

Hello

I just now found this Forum Thread after resubmitting one of my older runs. Can I still post the links here or should I just edit the runs myself now? It's roughly 12 runs that I'd be updating.

Minigames will very likely not get a leaderboard, though that's mostly my personal opinion and less of a community standpoint. If there is a reasonable demand for it we could add those. Combat Challenges aren't very well suited for speedruns mostly cause tactical mode also slows down the In-Game Timer for it as well which negates some of the speed aspect. The only way would be to enforce having no slowdown on Tactical Mode though that would be a hassle to mandate for verification.

We're discussing the possibility of adding some kind of Chocobo Racing category. Something we have in mind would be a category that encompasses all races, how would that sound?

Lower Saxony, Germanydesa2 years ago

Heyya,

we as the KHFM moderators have thought about this proposal for a few days and came to the conclusion that we will not adjust any of the times to accommodate for the differences in the two different version. There are multiple reasons for this:

A: Every single category would need to be retimed to make this a fair change. It wouldn't be fair nor would it make sense to only do this for Beginner Any% on PC. All other categories would have to be retimed as well which would not lead to a lot of extra runs needing to be adjusted, but we would need to research the time difference for every single category.

B: The differences are more than just the textboxes. We are currently aware of a few more differences in which ENG behaves differently from JP (Being able to move immediately after talking to Leon before the Earthshine cutscene, different spawn points after PC1 and Opposite Armor, an extra screen fade before Oogie Manor to name a few). All of these would need be accounted for as well. Furthermore this also means that just patching the game to be JP is not an option due to those gameplay differences that would need to be ironed out as well.

C: The 45 second time difference was determined by myself through this comparision I made It does include most of the differences I referred to in point B, however it was only timed to get an idea on what the difference between the languages would be by using two runs from the leaderboards. To get an accurate timing we would need a comparison that encompasses every difference and uses an auto-clicker for the textboxes to eliminate any human error. This would probably change the result by only a few seconds, but if we decide to go the path of retiming runs we'd rather do it in the most accurate way possible than just eyeball a difference.

D: FPS matters as far as I've observed. The textboxes are different in speed between 30 and 60 fps (That's why Sonic got 51 seconds as the difference several years ago as opposed to the 45 seconds I got here). This means that potential framedrops could affect the time it would need to be adjusted by.

Now obviously we don't want to deny this proposal without offering a solution to this issue. Currently we are aware of three ways, some more reasonable than others, to still be able to legally obtain a JP version through Epic Games:

1: As stated in this thread before by Violin there is the option to purchase prepaid Japanese Visa Cards. There are multiple ways to purchase those, two example are listed here: https://www.play-asia.com/v-preca-5000-visa-gift-card-japan-account/13/70cvb7 https://www.g2a.com/vanilla-visa-10-000-jpy-key-japan-i10000338113019 Play-Asia offers cards up to 5000 Yen which would work well should the game be on a big sale while G2A offers cards up to 10000 Yen. Those are able to cover the entire purchase of 7980 Yen.

2: Another method would be using a VPN service to change your location as mentioned by Shikikairi. VPNs are not hard to access nowadays and many popular VPN services like NordVPN and Surfshark even offer a 30-day back guarantee meaning you can cancel your VPN right after should you not need it anymore.

3: This solution works in conjunction with the aformentioned 2 methods - Epic Games does not kick you out of the account if you're logged in on multiple devices simultaneously. This means that account sharing is something that can be done as well. This solution of course requires having a connection to someone in the community who already owns the game, but it also allows multiple people to band up for a purchase which would make the option of prepaid Visa cards a much more reasonable ways to access the game.

We understand that these proposed solutions are still hoops one has to jump through just to get your hands on a JP copy of the PC release and that's why we made sure to weigh out the positives over the negatives. The 40-50 second time adjustment is a rather small change in a 2+ hour speedrun that has many ways in which time can be gained or lost. As of right now it's even possible to still reach a Top#5 time with ENG which underlines how small the difference truly is. Ultimately this isn't big enough of a difference to justify reworking the leaderboards, whether this would be through a category spilt or retiming of the runs. We're happy to answer any upcoming questions and feedback on our decision. Thank you for your time reading this.

Sincerely

CoM doesn't have any Category Extensions yet. If you can think of an interesting category feel free to give it a shot and maybe it gets a spot on the board, but there's no guarantee of course.

Lower Saxony, Germanydesa3 years ago

It doens't matter which language you run the game in. As long as it isn't Japanese it's counted as an "ENG" run.

Lower Saxony, Germanydesa4 years ago

They would just drown inside that entire Disney Library. Kingdom Hearts is a big enough brand on its own that it doesn't need to be grouped with the Disney games, especially as the communities have no sort of connection to each other either.

Also I might've not seen that correctly now, is there a different between the two runs you both linked now?

Well, if you get a few more people interested in this category then I see no reason to not add it to the boards.

100% doesn't really have any difficulty attached to it as it's a legacy / dead category. The only reason it still exists on the leaderboards is due to there being a run, however that one doesn't even have a video remaining. If you want to look for a "good" 100% category you might want to look into JJ 100% or Platinum Trophy RTA.

Lower Saxony, Germanydesa4 years ago

Updated. Thanks for mentioning it, we completely forgot about that.

Definitely surprised to see that PC is the fastest. For most other KH games PC is actually one of the slower categories, that's quite interesting. Again for PC it would make the most sense if we would eventually go with a load remover. Not sure who would want to tackle that endeavor, but that would create the best competetive environment for it. The empty boards arguments mostly goes towards splitting the consoles, not necessarily to different categories as a whole. A common thing you see in speedrunning is people doing a run in any given category just to snag a free WR which by itself isn't bad, everyone can use their own ruleset, but is also rather silly in my eyes, that's why I'm a little hesitant on just splitting consoles, especially in a small game like this. Seeing the difference in loads definitely speaks for a split however.

The split you suggested

  1. PC
  2. PS5 / XboxSeries (S / X)
  3. PS4 (Pro) / XboxOne (X)
  4. Switch sounds like it would make the most sense. I checked the difference between PS4 Pro and Switch as well and it looked to me like it's about the same as PS4 Pro and Switch. The only thing I'm not 100% sure on is how PS4 / PS4 Pro should be grouped up as the regular PS4 might be just as slow as the Switch, it'd be great if you could find someone who could record a sample for that, too. Just the tutorial (First 5 min of the run) would already be enough in this case as that already gives a good suggestion of the overall load times of the game.

For the bigger categories a split can be considered once there is more competition I'd say. As you mentioned, there will probably not be many runs of All Stars / All Songs performed on a Switch and even less Plat runs on anything that isn't a PS4 / PS5.

What would help in the future is having those kind of discussions in the speedrunning discord as a whole. If anything it would be great if the result of a discussion like that could be posted there or, like in this case, in the Forum as that is what the Forum is for. I appreciate you bringing this topic into the Forums in the first place!

With Whale having a run and you definitely showing interest I would add the category to the board once you can show a run of yours. I guess having 2 runners for a category sounds good for a new category with this game. Lookign forward to seeing it.
