It's cool to see the SRC page with a fresh look, and better categories. Great job updating it.
One suggestion: Is there any point having the subcategory for different Starting Money? I don't see any reason any speedrunner would choose to start with less than $500k, so it seems pointless. Might be worth removing to avoid excess board splitting and empty boards.
Also, having a separate category for every single possible individual grant and individual achievement also seems a bit excessive maybe? It makes the categories list look overwhelming to new players. A good rule of thumb I use in other game pages is to only create categories where runs exist, or where runners have specifically expressed interest.
Ok, has it not been considered to grandfather all the existing runs into the new ruleset, since they were already verified to not be using the glitches that this mod patches out? This would avoid having to split the boards.
Where do I get hold of the mod?
I saw my True Glitchless run was moved to 'Legacy', and the new default subcategory is 'Softimer Patch' (which is an empty board, so I'm not sure why that's the default?). But the category rules don't explain what this is, nor do I see this subcategory on other categories. Can someone explain this? Thanks.
So you think that 50k gives a good feel of how the game played back in the day? If so, we could go with that for fixed-cycles. I'll write up new category rulesets at some point soon.
Hi, the discussion came up before (the thread seems to have disappeared) about cycles, because runners were going at varied speeds and this didn't look good for the leaderboards. It was suggested to try to match the original hardware performance, as the GOG version defaults to 8k which seems a bit slower than the original.
Do you have any insight into what the 'natural' speed ought to be for this game? I never really played it back in the day, and can't find any footage of the original game being played.
As for unlimited cycles category, that could also be added if runners find the base category too slow. It would also mean I don't have to reject the current run if it's going too fast, and instead can just move it to unlimited.
Previous mod was no longer active. I've overhauled the rules; no more speed hacks permitted.
Timing is reverted to RTA since we don't know where the autosplitter can be found. If someone is able to find/make one, and test that it works, I will happily reenable LRT, it would be ideal as loading times are quite substantial in this game.
For now, all DLCs are permitted, as from a first glance they don't seem to affect the main campaign much, so no need to split categories.
Hope these changes might encourage someone to have a go at the run.
Sorry, didn't notice this thread. It is a glitch. Cheats are codes that are put into the game intentionally by the devs.
Also, whilst we're on the subject, maybe you could also set 'Casual' to be the default value for the leaderboard, rather than 'Regular'? Because that's the one that has the most player interest, and will show when people first click into this game's page.
By the way the category still states No DLC in the name, can you change it to Any% to reflect this rule adjustment? Thanks.
Ah ok, thought it just meant any sidestep in the direction of travel.
Just realised that I'm ranked 3rd, despite having a faster time, because the leaderboard is ranked only by IGT time. I just tested the latest version of the game and it no longer gives you any in-game time when you complete it. The other runs must have been done on an older patch?
I would suggest to switch to RTA timing only, to unify the board, since IGT isn't available.
In the WR run (https://www.speedrun.com/mememe/runs/yoo0w1dy) I see a sidestep boost is used at 13m 18s to skip the trigger for meeting Jacknife, or something like that. Are we allowed to do this in our runs? I thought this would fall under no sidestep boosting.
