Hello everyone,
I would like to propose the creation of a new, highly technical category for the Sonic Wings / Aero Fighters (SNES) leaderboard: 1C2P (1 Controller, 2 Players), also known as Dual Play.
The Concept The extreme challenge consists of a single player controlling two ships simultaneously. This completely changes the dynamic of the game, demanding extreme motor coordination, double hitbox management, and a completely different approach to the standard Any% runs.
Since this requires a very specific control setup, I believe it needs its own dedicated category with clear rules to ensure legitimacy.
Proposed Ruleset for the Category To ensure fairness and accurate validation, here are the suggested rules:
- Platform & Emulators: Emulators are explicitly allowed (e.g., zsnesw, Snes9x), provided they follow the general speedrun.com guidelines for SNES accuracy. Original hardware is also permitted.
- Input Verification (Crucial): Runners must show the emulator's input configuration screen at the beginning of the video, proving that the commands for Player 1 and Player 2 are bound to the exact same physical controller or keyboard keys.
- Restrictions: The use of macros, external autofire, or scripts is strictly prohibited.
- Game Options: The Options screen must be displayed before the run begins to confirm Difficulty and Starting Lives settings.
- Continues: Limited to a maximum of 5 Continues (or standard Any% allowance).
- Timing (RTA): Timing starts on the frame the duo selection is confirmed and ends on the frame of the final hit that destroys the last boss.
This category brings a completely fresh and challenging way to play the game. I already have full VODs following these strict rules ready to submit if the board is opened.

This category has been proposed previously and has been archived. There are some instances where the game lags a bit during 2P and the optimal way to reduce the lag is to let one of the players dead for some time. Due to controversy we decided to remove this category.
