Hello SMO Online Speedrunners!

As of August 7th 2026 we are instantiating (even more!) new rules to ensure fairness and accessibility, across the board. Any runs currently on the leaderboards will remain unaffected by these changes, however any future submissions must abide by these rules.

SMOO+

SMOO+ is now legalized for runs! yippie! we have been working along side the developers over SMO Online Plus to make it legal for this leaderboard (and is now the recommended version for runs)

this mod has a vast amount of quality of life and new syncing features to add a lot of the features runners felt were lacking in other versions of the mod. This includes

• Toadette Moon Sync
• (better) Scenario Syncing
• Hint Art Moon Sync
• Purple Coin Sync
• Checkpoint Collection Sync
• Global Moon Counter
• Player Event Log
• Disables Game Modes (enabling them would previously invalidate the run)

but the addition of SMOO+ puts a lot of the other rules into question, so we have done MAJOR complete rewrite of the rules. I'd recommend any runners to read the new rules, as there are quite frankly too many changes to mention in this post, but I'll mention a few of the biggest changes.

• You no longer may submit a single run to multiple categories
• Overclocking the system is now banned
• Custom themes are now allowed, only so long as they do not alter the switch menu layout
• Moon Counter must remain unobscured by all players
• 124 Moons requires SMOO+
• Some categories are now eligible for Breaks.
