Hello, I’d like to ask a question because I’m currently losing my mind over my speedrun. Is this game 100% RNG-based? Let me explain: I’ve reached the part where Mr. X moves the helicopter. Everything goes fine until I run to grab the jack handle for the library. First off, the Licker jumps on me half the time; otherwise, it’s a tongue lash. Then, when I head back into the office, a zombie is on my left once every two runs (the one behind the big zombie sleeping in the chair) and then, SURPRISE, Mr. X opens the door and he’s right there in the office with us.
Thinking I might be the problem, I wondered if playing at 200+ FPS made his movements more fluid, causing him to arrive faster than expected. So, I capped it at 120 FPS. He stopped appearing there—I could hear him far off to the East side. But then, I enter the library, find one zombie to the right next to the shelf I need to move and another one right in front of me. I try to do what needs to be done and suddenly, Mr. X is there; he enters the library. I reload my save, and same thing: Licker trouble, and as soon as I enter the office, Mr. X is already there. Yet, I’m playing at the same speed, taking no detours, and my movement is identical to my previous run.
So, I’d like to know if the game is 100% random or if there’s something I should know? Please help.
Chat, where do we even start? Someone is gonna explain you DA and such however for your licker problem: If you enter the door, go back inside and then proceed, the licker is now somewhere else :)
Hello thanks for your help !
Okay, I decided to lock the FPS at 120, but I'm still having the same problem. I can't even do what I want quickly because he's already in the office. I dodge him, and then when I go up to the library, by the time I've pushed the shelves the first time, he's behind me.
I don't know exactly how to check my DirectX version, but I assume I'm on 11 because all I did because I installed the game and nothing more on Steam.
H bro, above Yatogami commented on the trigger that teleports that licker out of that corridor. Following up on your question, even though Mr. X isn't 100% effective, he's programmed to give the player that feeling.
After activating his appearance in the helicopter, he's automatically in pursuit mode (his soundtrack starts playing), but when you leave his line of sight and go through some doors, Mr. X is programmed to enter patrol mode and walk around the police station following you. Since speedrunners take a direct route from the helicopter to the hydraulic jack, the chances of him being near the player are high. The two most common places he'll be as soon as you pick up the jack are between the corridor and the main lobby, or he might be going through the corridor door as soon as you pass the zombie that goes through the broken window.
After passing by him, he will surely be in pursuit mode while you go to the library to punish you while you move that damn bookcase, in addition to the three zombies that will be standing there. Also, upon entering the library, there is a pixel that, with a flash grenade, incapacitates the three annoying zombies long enough to move the bookcase without worry. Take a look at some runs and you'll find someone doing this.
Hi Itx,
Is it possible that I'm taking too long, and that's why he sees me enter the office where I'm supposed to use the blue key from the balcony? I've done this six times, and each time he's either already in the office when I return, or I see him enter, but in any case, he's there.
If he enters and I load my automatic checkpoint save, will the RNG still be the same in the autosave, and therefore, if I want a new game, will I have to start a new run from scratch?
In the library, I see a lot of YouTube runs where the zombies aren't in the same position as me, and the runners can move the bookshelves without any problem.
Regarding zombie placement, I think it's necessary to load a completely new game if I want them to be somewhere else. If I reload the autosave each time, they'll be in the same place.
It's the same as when Marvin calls me on the walkie-talkie. Sometimes when the floor breaks, there's a female zombie in front of me, sometimes she's in front of the door I need to go through to get to the balcony, and sometimes she's further away, so I can leave without any problem.
I'm used to playing Resident Evil 1 and 2 classic on PlayStation 1, so I'm not really used to the random zombie positions. That's why I'm asking if it's absolutely necessary to start a completely new run and forget about autosave.
Also when entering the Library to move the bookshelf you can fire a shot at the ground outside the Library door to get the attention of the zombies so they’ll be closer to the door and should give you enough time to move the bookshelf before Mr. X gets to the Library. As far as reloading your saves I don’t know because I usually ever only load saves if I die.
- Lickers & DirectX: Make sure you are running the game on DirectX 11. In other versions, Licker behavior is altered, causing them to jump at you and ruin your "yolo" strat.
- Library (Bookshelves): During your first visit to the Library, pre-move two of the bookshelves into their optimal positions. This saves crucial time later when you return with the Jack handle.
- Mr. X Baiting: When returning to the Library with the Jack, fire a shot at the wall near the door before entering. This lures the zombies inside away from your path. Additionally, the noise causes Mr. X to pause at the entrance for a moment, giving you enough time to finish the bookshelf puzzle undisturbed.
We recently held a vote within the RE2R speedrunning discord to determine whether or not to separate older generation consoles from the current and future generation consoles. This is an important matter because the current generation consoles simply perform much better than older consoles, which au
