I'm rather new to speedrunning and was wondering what categories I should try. i've done any% and pebbles% for survivor and monk, and tried to do gourmand and hunter pebbles% but the wall exists. so I'm here to ask for advise.
You definitely need to understand a different mechanism than the vanilla game. However, some characters have no reason to use controls that they made difficult in the vanilla game, so when it comes to controls, they might be more accessible than vanilla.
When playing Arti sulgcat, I recommend disabling wall pounching.

A lot of the time monk pebbles was found to be good for new players, but for non-wall runs monk pilgrimage can work out. Its hard to suggest something specific as there will be some point in each run that is difficult in some way, monk makes things very easy to start at least.
Otherwise, any character you think is interesting try it out, everyone has something they like for each character. You don't need to be the best at something or do it perfect, for the most part just following a route others have done will get good results.
