  • 12 KOTs - Adding on Propeller and Turnip Rally
  • Individual Tours for Turnip and Propeller Rally

Please give us time to determine proof thresholds for these new categories. For now All Runs of the new Categories require Video Proof. 99% and 100% are affected by this update, however due to the few amount of runs, we will not be splitting at this time.

With all of these changes, there were quite a few rules to update. Please let us know if you notice any mistakes or inconsistencies, or if you notice any other affected categories that we did not address!

TL;DR Version 1.2.0 added "No COM" option and changed some physics. Don't submit runs with "No COM" yet, and include the patch number in the run description going forward.

Version 1.2.0 of Mario Kart World alters the way that landing from jumps, ramps, and gliders work, with some changes to rails and wall rides that have not been effectively tested at the time of writing. This effectively means that your runs will be much faster on the new patch.

In addition to that, VS mode has seen a radical change; there is now an option for No CPUs whatsoever (No COM), meaning it's just your character on the track with only 1st place item boxes at your disposal. We will be opening subcategory leaderboards for the two main VS Mode categories (30 Tracks Classic, Travelling Plumber) very soon. Until then, please refrain from submitting No COM runs until the new leaderboards open up!

Until further notice, if you submit a speedrun that was played under the new patch, please specify somewhere within your submission. We will be adding information and variables to the leaderboards sooner than later, but until these changes are pushed we ask that you provide that information so we can sort incoming runs accordingly later on. Hello everyone,

I would like to preface this by thanking the people who have given us their thoughts and opinions on this issue, be it through the #⁠suggestions post on our Discord (join us!) or on the SRC forums. It is clear that No-Rewind runs are something that the community is passionate about, and I agree that there is significant community agreement and demand for this change to be made.

With that said, we have added a variable to the Leaderboards to track Racing runs that make use of the Rewind feature. The variable has been added to the following categories:

• All Grands Prix,
• All Knockout Tours,
• 30 Tracks (Classic),
• Travelling Plumber,
• Unlock Mirror Mode,

It is important that Rewind runs and No-Rewind runs are accurately tracked. We will be able to verify whether or not the Rewind feature has been used in a No-Rewind run, and we will take appropriate action against runners who deliberately mislabel their submissions as No-Rewind runs. To be safe, we ask that you only label a run as No-Rewind if the intention of the run was not to use the Rewind feature. If you are unsure, please label your run as a Rewind run. This is the default setting of the variable.

Runs have been assigned the Rewind variable by default unless their comments contained the '[NO-REWIND]' tag. Thank you for bearing with us as we worked to implement this change :)

LEADERBOARDS OPEN IN 3 DAYS!,

I am currently working very hard to get the new leaderboards ready for submissions to come through. The categories we will be adding are as follows:

• All Grands Prix
• All Knockout Tours
• 30 Tracks (Classic)
• Travelling Plumber (AKA 30 Tracks Continuous)
• All ? Panels
• All P Switch Missions
• All Peach Medallions
• Unlock Mirror Mode

We will also be adding categories for individual Grands Prix and Knockout Tours. Please be reminded that all runs uploaded to the leaderboards will require video proof. Any runs submitted without video proof will be rejected. We will be adding proof thresholds once we have a good enough idea of what the top times look like, and we will be reviewing these times as the top times improve on a semi-regular basis. We will soon be posting detailed rulesets for each of these categories.

SPEEDRUN.COM CONTEST!

Now is your chance to contribute to the Mario Kart World SRC site! I am looking for your best photo of the new Rainbow Road to function as the background for the site. I am also looking for an MKWorld-styled Speedrun.com logo to go on the top bar of our site! Currently we are borrowing the theme for the Mario Kart Series site on Speedrun.com (which we are now a part of!) which is not exactly fitting the theme of the game. I have made a new channel in the Discord server,⁠ #contest-submissions, for you to submit your Rainbow Road photos and Speedrun.com logos! Here are the details:

• Logos must say 'Speedrun.com' and be of 646x88 size.,
• Background images must be screenshots of Rainbow Road taken on the Nintendo Switch 2. Editing the image in any way is not allowed.,
• Please limit your submissions to one post, and tag your post with the submissions you are making (Logo and/or Background)
• You have until Tuesday, June 24, 2025 3:00 PM to make your submission. Any submissions made after this time will not be considered.

We will select a winning Background and Logo. The winners will each feature on the site until at least June 5th 2026. At that point, we'll probably do another contest to shake things up for the game's 1st anniversary.

30 TRACKS OPEN RACE HOSTED BY JHAY

To celebrate the leaderboards opening, Jhay will be hosting a massive 30 Tracks Open race. The following has been copied from Jhay:

If you have never used therun.gg before, follow the steps below:

• Add the run.gg component in your Livesplit layout editor.
• Go to https://therun.gg/ and sign in using your Twitch account.
• Click your username in the top right and access your Livesplit key.
• Copy and paste this key into the run.gg component of your Livesplit layout.

That's it! Just join the race room using the link that I will post on the day! If anyone has any more questions regarding the race please let me know!

The Discord server has grown exponentially since the game's release, with many of you working to share strats, support each other, and even birthing brand new categories! We currently have 2 server boosts, which has already allowed us to unlock a bunch of emoji and sticker slots. Mario Kart World is here! I hope you're all busy playing through the game and enjoying your casual playthroughs. If there is one thing I would advise you when playing through the first game, it's to take the time to enjoy it. You only get to enjoy your casual playthrough once, so make the most of it and just enjoy it. Labbing strats can come later!

As for the leaderboards, these will be opening on Thursday, 26th of June. We are going to need time to fully flesh out the categories and the rules for the SRC page, and we want as much time as possible to gather your ideas and feedback so that the speedrun categories are shaped as much as possible by all of you. We will be opening up some text channels on the server tomorrow morning (UK time) to enable you to discuss the various game modes, and show off your strats for the game's courses. We will also be opening up a Speedrun Suggestions channel for you to give your ideas both for categories you want to see on the main page, and for category extensions. This can also be used to suggest additions or amendments to the category rules and requirements.

As for the categories for the game, some of the categories you can expect to see on the main page are:

We will be gathering feedback through our Discord server, which you can join by pressing the Discord button next to the game icon!

In the beginning, all runs submitted to the leaderboards will require video proof. This does not have to be a screen capture - you can literally record yourself playing the game on your phone for now, just as long as we can see you completing a speedrun to completion. In order to make the leaderboards as accessible as possible, we will be introducing time thresholds for video proof for all categories at a later date. We will have a Google Sheet that clearly states the proof threshold for each category. If your run is faster than the threshold for your category, we will require that you upload video proof as well. We will reject runs that do not have video proof if they breach this threshold by even .001s - it is important that we uphold these fairly, so if you think you might have what it takes to go faster than the proof threshold, it's better to be safe than sorry.

We are in the process of creating the Discord Server for this page. Once everything is ready, we'll share the invite link!

Currently, the initial moderation team is small and consists of people you may recognise as moderators from the Mario Kart 8 Speedrunning Discord. We will be recruiting SRC Moderators and Verifiers very soon! We would ideally like to get a full team together in advance of the game's release, so we have as wide a variety of voices at the decision-making table as possible, and we can ensure we are ready when the leaderboards open in June.
