Here's the TL;DR - We're updating the rules. Mostly for clarification / accuracy, but as part of this we are overhauling how we handle the proof threshold requirements. Please read through the proposed rules and the changelog and either send Bayesic a message on speedrun.com or reach out on discord with any suggestions / comments / concerns. Note: We are primarily looking for feedback on the clarity of the proposed rules, not the rules themselves. I am working on getting a Japanese translation of this post and will put it in a follow-up post

Some of the existing rules, particularly around proof thresholds / requirements, are a bit out of date and only exist in discord announcements. That's not ideal. So we've been hard at work to update the rules so that they are accurate and clear. You can see the full changelog below

As I said in the TL;DR there aren't many actual changes -- mostly clarifying how we handle proof requirements / easing up on some of the restrictions around things like showing the home screen in all of your video proof. That being said....

New proof thresholds

We are massively updating how we handle the proof thresholds. Currently cups are based on how far off you are from the world record, and every other category is based on a hard cutoff. With Switch 2 coming out it's been a real headache trying to come up with thresholds that will stand the test of time. So we are moving every category to have a time threshold that's based on distance from the world record. You can see the new cutoffs below. Note that any run within the top 10, regardless of how fast / slow it is, still requires video proof

The way to read this table is that for 48 Tracks (Base), any run within 3:00 (three minutes) of the world record for Digital and 4:00 (four minutes for cartridge) requires proof. However we still do encourage all runs slower than those cutoffs to provide video proof if possible

THRESHOLDS ARE THE SAME FOR 150CC / 200CC AND FOR SWITCH 1 / SWITCH 2

Changelog:

• Removed translations into languages other than Japanese. I will do my best to keep a good JP translation up to date, but I can't commit to that for other languages going forward
• Removed "Modifications to the Switch or Switch 2 that give unfair advantages are banned." from the platform rules. This is already covered by "Mods or hacks of any kind are banned"
• Added an entire section for how to submit runs from longer runs, and clarified the cup rules.
• Removed the requirement that you show the home screen of the console in your video proof
• Removed the requirement that the minimap / position tracker etc be enabled. This is a holdover from when we were trying to load time everything and no longer makes sense
