Bingo speedrunning is a non-leaderboard way to enjoy playing the game quickly in a different fashion to running preset categories.

Getting Started - pre-1.53 (26 November 2024)

**Note:** These recommendations are for older version runs, new recommendations may be published for game versions post-1.53 (26 November 2024) as the new Volvo FH6 has a new better engine and transmission.

# Loadout

Truck: 	Volvo FH16 Classic

(While taglift is tempting to take, it is not very stable, and does not really corner any better)

## Transmission

- IGT: I-Shift ATO3512D (11.73-0.78, diff 3.08 = 2.4024 top gear ratio)
While the Allison 6 is tempting for acceleration, the lower top ratio and lower differential multiplier mean the 12 speed gets much higher top speeds, which is generally more important for IGT runs as you are motorway driving for most of the run.
- RTA: This depends on the length of the run and how much time you spend at top speed across the overall run. For short runs with lots of technical elements, like Edinburgh-London, the Allison 6 starts to gain ground. But for runs with longer top speed sections, like Paris-Berlin, the 12-speed remains stronger.

## Tyres

Michelin DLC is required for best speeds.

- Front: Personal preference, may affect handling but will not affect speed as front wheels are not drive wheels. I use 385/55 or 385/65, but have been experimenting with more standard 315/70 with custom rims as the model demonstrates them being thinner and sitting closer to the midline. However I do not really know if this makes any physical difference in-game. At best it's very hard to notice;
- Rear: 315/80, either variant - the larger wheel size means slightly slower acceleration out of tight corners such as in towns, but means higher top speeds.

Interior and cosmetics: Personal preference. Extra fittings do not appear to add weight to slow you down.

# NG+

If you have been playing this game for a while, you likely have sufficient exploration and resources to fast travel anywhere on the map to set up a save for most categories, and the wealth required to buy the best truck immediately.

# New profile - Save Game Editing

If you are just getting started, or are setting up a profile in a down-patched version, you will start with very little.

Start the game as normal, but select one of the Volvo designs as your "preferred Truck". Choose a starting city that is reasonably central. Amsterdam is a good choice, especially if you want to try your like on the Deliveries category roulette while you're there.

Complete the first delivery, and ideally a few other quick jobs, until you get the email advertising the ability to buy a truck, and level up to choose your first Skill.

Since you selected a preference for Volvo, you should automatically be able to visit one of their dealerships, regardless of which city you started in and where the nearest other truck dealer is.

At this point, unless you want to work your way up to level 3 and getting the 400K loan to afford things (and level to 20 to unlock the best parts), save your game. Then check the Resources section for Virtual Speditor. This is a save game editor designed to add specific deliveries to your profile. However all we care about at this point is that it decodes the save game file into a readable (and editable) format.

- Select Profile directory.
e.g. C:\Users\{user}\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profiles\{profile name hash}\save\1
(In Windows Explorer, sort folders in the relevant profile directory by 'Date modified' to determine the save you just made)
- Click 'Load'. A command prompt window will flash up and go away.
At this point, you can close the application - it has decoded 'game.sii' in the save directory.
- Open 'game.sii' with a text editor, e.g. Notepad++
- Find using Ctrl+F the string 'adr'
The line above the 'adr' line will be 'experience points' - set this to at least 160,000 to define your driver level above max skill points.
- Set 'adr' to the value '63' to unlock all cargo types.
- Set the following 5 lines ('long_dist' to 'mechanical') to 6 to max out those skills.
- Find the string 'money_account'
This is the bank balance - win the lottery and give your profile what you want (within reason, there may be an overflow limit...), just a couple of million will be plenty.

It is possible to define visited cities, and many other things, but you should be careful. A backup file will have been created by Virtual Speditor if you break something and cannot load.

Save the file, then back in the game, Load the save you just made. Congratulations! You should now have enough funds to buy trucks, and all the skills required if you wish to pick up deliveries.

From version 1.35: Own 3 garages (including your starting HQ, just buy 2 more by visiting them) and you will unlock the ability to remotely purchase any garage, which you can then travel to, without having first visited the city, in order to quickly set up City-City runs.

Installation
The installation process is Split in three parts Downloading this repository, downloading the SDK handler and configuring livesplit.

Downloading the load remover

In order to download the load remover go to this link: https://github.com/SnipsMine/ETS2-Autosplitter and click on the code button then select "download ZIP" this downloads the repository to your pc. Move the zip to a folder where you can find it again later. After moving Unzip the repository by right clicking and selecting "unpack in ETS2-Autosplitter-main/". This creates a folder named ETS2-Autosplitter-main which contains the load remover.

Installing the SDK handler

In order to read the games values this script makes use of another program. To install this program you go to this link: https://github.com/RenCloud/scs-sdk-plugin . On the right side of the page you will find the releases each release corresponds to a different version of ETS2. In the table below you can lookup the correct release version you would need to download for your game version. A note: if you use version 1.26 or lower to run you game you need to build the package yourself.

After downloading the correct release for you game. Go to the Eurotruck game folder, this folder can be found in in the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2" if you install games in a custom folder you can find it there. When in there open the bin folder. You will see 2 folders win_x64 and win_x86. Open win_x86 there you will find the executable for ETS2 in here we create a folder named plugins if the folder already exist use that one. Now open the zip we just downloads and go into the Win64 folder and drag the file "scs-telemetry.dll" to the plugin folder we just created.

Configuring livesplit

The last thing we need to do is to do is configure timesplit to use the load remover script. To do this open livesplit, right click and select "edit layout". A screen should appear click the + button in the left of the screen and select under control "Scriptable Auto Splitter". This adds a row by the same name. Dubbel click on that row. Another screen should appear with input bar named "Script path" click browse and select the file "ETS2-Autosplitter.asl" saved in the first step. 

Live split has two different timers one timer is a "real time" timer and the other is the "game time" timer. When a load remover only the timer that measures game time is affected. So we need to change the timing method to game time, this can be done in two ways the fist is to dubbel click on the timer row in Layout settings and change the timing method from "current timing method" to "game time". The other way is to change the current timing method to do this exit the edit layout screen and right click on the timer and select "game time" under "compare against".

Testing the load remover and sdk handler

Now that these steps are done open ETS2. When entering the profile menu a popup should appear saying an SDK is found and loaded. This means that the SDK handler is working, if this screen does not appear go back to the section installing sdk but instead of putting the win_x86 try the same steps but in win_x64. 

During the loading of your profile you can test if the load remover is working by starting the timer if the timer stops than the load remover is working. If the load remover is still not working try each step again to see if every thing is present.

Important note: due to how the load remover identifies the loading screens, any overlay that is occupying the top-left of the screen (e.g. FPS count or similar, or running the game in windowed mode) will prevent it from working. If possible, move such an overlay to the top-right or similar instead, or disable it while running the game with the load remover active.
Alternatively you could tweak the code relating to the pause check and modify the x / y values for the black square comparison offset, e.g. 80, 80

New considerations in 1.53

This is a bit of a jump in version numbers, but covers majour differences between 1.53 and older versions of the game, like 1.31 or 1.43.

**Menu**

New menu layouts make some strategies slower/faster/more annoying/less annoying. To be filled out later with full details.

**Map updates**

Austria rework is complete, new DLCs. Istanbul - Aberdeen RTA now run on this version. To be filled out later with full details.

**Truck**

The entire reason why 1.53 is faster for most IGT categories is the addition of a new fastest truck. We move away from the Volvo FH3 / FH Classic with the 750HP motor, to the Volvo FH6 with the 780HP motor. This truck can hit and hold 185km/h on most motorways in the game when configured properly.

Use the transmission with the 11.73-0.78 ratios and 2.64 differential. This is the primary reason this truck is faster (contrary to a mistake made in one of the forum posts about this subject). Fill out later with full and specific tuning guide.

**Physics**

Physics have become even less favourable for speedruns, and are now both slower to accelerate and more difficult to safely drive with. To be filled out later with full details.

**Pause/Unpause behaviour**

In all versions of the game, pausing and unpausing without triggering a loading screen leads to ~1.5 seconds of in-game time to be advanced without the truck moving in that time. This is about half of an ingame minute, and serves as a small penalty in IGT runs to take a break / check notes / read chat.

In old versions of the game [which?], triggering a loading screen (such as changing graphics settings to despawn traffic) causes a loss of extremely little in-game time, effectively none. Measured as 0 frames by dvrk and 1-6 frames (typically 1) by kinkinkijkin. Hardware-dependant, slower computers are likely advantageous. Loading screens would take a fairly long time, 5-15 seconds in many recordings, and as high as 30 seconds to a minute on slower computers.

In new versions of the game [which?], triggering a loading screen (such as changing graphics settings to despawn traffic) causes a loss of nearly that full second and a half of in-game time that is expected when no loading screen is triggered. Measured as ~1 second by dvrk and ~1.1 by kinkinkijkin. Hardware-dependant, and we have no clue on what hardware has advantage. Loading screens are very short, typically around 1-2 seconds in most recordings.

Fill out with more information as we gain a better understanding of this.

**Glitch incidence**

The following major glitches have a significantly-higher incidence on newer versions, or are new:

- Random launches: certain collision events can cause your truck to suddenly be "launched", where the game gives it a ton of speed in some direction suddenly to resolve a collision. When going fast, you run into the chance of this happening as a result of touching the road surface, or a wall, without being able to expect it (thus, "random" launches). This immediately kills your run. The higher speed of the new fastest truck, updated physics, and lower framerates cause this to be more common on newer versions of the game.[hearsay?]
- Damage randomization: the game determines the damage taken by a collision in a way that depends on how deeply your truck collides with the other object during the physics tick in which they collide. Physics ticks have unpredictable lengths, and your alignment at any given time is unknowable, thus whenever you hit another object the damage receives is effectively-random. Newer versions suffer from much, much higher average damage, and significantly less predictable damage.[needs source] Lightly touching another vehicle with the tail of your truck can be 60% damage. Slamming headfirst into an unmoving object can be 0% damage. You can take 100% damage from a side collision that you weren't sure actually happened. Also, this is technically not a bug as it is not the code breaking [needs source], but it is still a glitch as it is undesirable behaviour that feels unintended.
- Death bumps: also not a bug, going over some bumps at high speed will cause the truck to suddenly veer out to one side just afterwards. You can avoid this by lifting off of the accelerator until you are finished going over the bump. This is the intended response from the physics, due to an unusual and potentially-unintended behaviour of the suspension. Notably affects Aberdeen-Bratislava in three locations, Edinburgh-London (when run on 1.53) in one location, and Istanbul-Aberdeen in one location. Behaviour not exhibited in older versions [which?].

Please take note of how all currently-known bugs more common on 1.53 are undesirable, and kill runs.

**Travel restrictions**

These changes are only relevant to the challenge categories & deliveries. When you start a new file, you are now able to travel to multiple cities you've never visited prior, as well as take quick jobs from those cities. This massively buffs Divorce% routing, as players have more diverse choices of potential starting cities without needing to sacrifice as much in terms of the availability of good quick jobs. This is not unique to 1.53+, as it was added in an earlier version [which?], but that earlier version was not seen as viable for relevant categories.[needs source]

Release versions and how to downpatch

To downgrade version:

- right-click on Euro Truck Simulator 2 in Steam Library, select Properties.
- Select 'Betas' tab. In the dropdown, select the version you want, e.g. 'temporary_1_30'
*Note* some beta branches have been removed, there is an alternative that will be explained at the bottom of the page.

### Version recommendations

- IGT runs in general are likely best on v1.53+ to use the new Volvo FH6 and its 780 PS engine, capable of higher top speeds. However new physics changes may make for a more inconsistent experience, so you may still prefer to run the game on older versions until grinding for top spots.
- Edinburgh-London RTA is 1.30 to avoid extra service warp window and automatic parking brake engage post-warp (only 1.31 on some game region versions). Unfortunately the pause flag for the load remover lags slightly for 1.30 but runs will be manually retimed. IGT should be 1.32 or earlier to avoid the physics changes.

- Paris-Berlin RTA and IGT should be run on v1.32 to take advantage of beneficial map changes upgrading the roads near Berlin, but to avoid physics changes.
- Aberdeen-Bratislava RTA is now best run on at least game version 1.43 for changes to Frankfurt, and service station positions at Amsterdam and Frankfurt for quicker exit. IGT may benefit from older game versions e.g. 1.32 still for minimal road changes and better truck handling.
- Tampere-Catania RTA is currently best run on 1.40 to avoid changes to Lyon in 1.43, and Hannover in 1.45.
- Istanbul-Aberdeen is best run on the most recent game version, as the new Volvo FH6 truck and transmission options have an increased top speed, which overcomes the physics and road layout changes.

Loading is considered to have begun from the frame the screen becomes completely black after taking an action e.g. calling for emergency services or confirming a ferry departure.
Loading ends on the frame that the truck becomes visible once more and inputs are accepted - sometimes on some versions there is a fade-in, in which case as soon as the screen is no longer fully black, time resumes.
