As the title says, this is mostly just a quick announcement to let you know that an All PSN Trophies category has now officially been added to the leaderboards, which is something I mentioned might happen at the start of the previous post, where I talked about the new PS4/PS5 release of this game on PSN. If you plan to submit a run of the category, please make sure to give the Category Rules that have been written for it a read!
Besides that, the "Normal/NG+" leaderboard split for both All Levels and 100% has been removed and the "NG+" runs have been moved to their own NG+ All Levels and NG+ 100% miscellaneous categories since - as the only one to have actually ran them to date - I realized that they are far too arbitrary to warrant splitting the Main categories over, so it makes a lot more sense for them to have their own leaderboards as Misc. categories instead.
On the topic of All Levels and 100%, the order they appear on the leaderboards has also been swapped around, so that the (main) category order is now Any% -> All Levels -> 100% -> All PSN Trophies, which essentially makes it go from the shortest and most popular category, to the longest and (likely) least popular, due to the fact that PSN Trophies are exclusive to PS4 / PS5 consoles, making All PSN Trophies unable to be ran on platforms like PS2 or Emulator, which are popular for the rest of the categories.
Last but not least, the Any% (Glitchless) category has been renamed to just Any% Glitchless, because having it in brackets could make things like LiveSplit or therun.gg think that it's an Any% variable / subcategory, rather than its own thing.
Finally, 2 small sidenotes regarding the IL leaderboards to end this off:
- I've been considering adding milliseconds to them for a while now, mainly due to the autoscrollers and/or really short levels where it's super easy to end up with a tie, so that may or may not happen soon.
- Recently, I also thought of the idea to add an "All Clear Crystals" subcategory of sorts for ILs - the applicable ones that is (from Cove to Treachery, excluding Truck Escape) - but I'm not entirely sure whether it'd make sense to have it apply to both 100% and Any%, or just the former, so I decided to put that one on the back burner for now and maybe come back to it at some point in the future.
As of August 18th 2026, Disney's Atlantis has officially been released on the PSN Store for PS4 and PS5 consoles! With this both platforms have been added (along with their Pro counterparts, albeit their performance will more than likely be the same), a new clarification on rules has been added, and something along the lines of "All PSN Trophies" might eventually end up being added as a (miscellaneous?) category, too.
ANY USE OF THE REWIND FUNCTION AND QUICK SAVE/LOAD DURING A RUN IS STRICTLY BANNED! Simply opening the emulation menu is not grounds enough for rejection, but the use of either of the stated functions will result in the run being rejected on the spot.
Some notes (that may or may not be updated as more info becomes available):
-
It is free with PS+ Premium (Deluxe in select regions?) or costs 10€ / $10.
-
You should have access to both the NTSC (US) and PAL (EU) versions regardless of what region you are from. Since the game never got an actual Japanese release though, I can't currently confirm nor deny whether you can even buy it at all in Japan / Asia.
-
The NTSC version runs at 60Hz while PAL runs at 50Hz, making NTSC still by far the better choice for speedrunning, since PAL runs a lot slower in comparison.
-
The language of the PAL version is based off of the language of your console (and defaults to English if it's one that the game never got a release for), while the NTSC version only comes in English no matter what. The download size of the game being a decent amount larger than the original size of ~360 MB for the PS1 rom (2.84 GB for the PS4 version & 2.63 GB for the PS5 version) would suggest that it probably includes multiple iterations of the PAL version, since each of the languages was its own release, rather than there being a single one with a language select (as is the case with most of the other PS1 games I've personally played). This is further reinforced by the fact that after switching languages, the game will use an entirely separate memory card, presumably because the Title ID of each language variant is different.
-
In relation to the above, if you make a save state in 1 version of the game and then switch to another (whether it's between NTSC and PAL, or the various PAL languages), you can still load the save state and continue playing the version of the game it was originally made in just fine.
-
From the little bit of testing I've done for loads, they seem to be about on par with the ePSXe emulator, thus still slightly slower than PS2 w/ FDS (and by extension PSP/Vita/PSTV w/ VFDS, but since those only ever got an official release of the PAL version, they're entirely redundant for speedrunning), which means that PS2 will almost certainly remain the most optimal platform for full-game speedruns. However, due to the lack of lag in levels like Leviathan Attack or Treachery, it might become optimal for certain ILs.
