24-Sep-2025: Emulators, Leaderboard Tidy Up and New Categories
Veröffentlicht 11 months ago von

TL;DR: The Abe’s Exoddus leaderboards have been reorganised for clarity and consistency.

  • Categories reorganised (None have been removed!).
  • New “Unrestricted / NoSS / NMG” category restrictions.
  • Emulator runs now permitted (Duckstation - NTSC version of Exoddus only).
  • Runs without video proof have been removed.

Tidying up the leaderboard. Why do it?

The old leaderboard had 13 different boards, one for each category. While nothing was technically wrong with it, it made the page messy to read. Now the categories have been grouped into main categories with three restriction types (two exceptions). This tidier layout means no more drop-down menus to see everything.

This was how it looked previously

As it was before, the categories are still as follows

  • Any% (Complete the game as quickly possible)
  • 100% (Complete the game and save all Mudokons)
  • Hardcore (Complete the game and save all Mudokons without using Quiksave or Restart Path)
  • Max Casualties (Complete the game and kill as many Mudokons as possible)
  • Good Ending (Complete the game and save atleast 150 Mudokons and exit through the good ending portal)
  • 50/50 (Complete the game with saving and killing half of all available Mudokons)

With each category having three restrictions (Unrestricted, NoSS, NMG), all previous categories are still represented. One category (Hardcore) is an exception to this rule - this is explained further below.

Category Restriction description

  1. Unrestricted (All glitches are allowed)
  2. NoSS (Glitches are allowed apart from Save State Glitches (although Quiksave/Quikload for opening portals is permitted))
  3. NMG (No Major Glitches - a list of allowed minor glitches can be found here.

Note: Unrestricted is a new term that might be familiar to new and current runners.

  • For existing runners, think of Unrestricted as replacing what used to be called Any% or 100%. Unrestricted inherits the same rules from categories like Any%, meaning nothing in the ruleset has changed.

  • Therefore what used to be called an "Any% run" would now be called "Any% Unrestricted run" and a "100% run" would be called "100% Unrestricted)".

Category Restriction Exceptions

Hardcore is the one category that does not have 3 category restriction.

Why is this the case?

Hardcore is a standalone category where players must save all 300 Mudokons without using Quiksave or Restart Path. Because of this, Hardcore is always NMG only.

Now the leaderboard is tidier, there is no need for miscellaneous categories to be hidden. For those interested the main categories were Any%, 100% and Hardcore. All other categories were considered miscellaneous.

For consistency, all categories that can allow Unrestricted, NoSS and NMG category restrictions, will have it. This has lead to the creation of the following new categories

  • Good Ending - Unrestricted
  • 50/50 - Unrestricted
  • 50/50 - NMG

50/50 NMG has been added for consistency. However, more of a "best case/closest possible" approach has been adopted. As it is currently impossible to save and kill 150 Mudokons without glitches, the closest and runner can get to this will be the target instead. This means 50/50 NMG runs will have the goal of finishing the game with 154 Mudokons Saved and 146 Casualties.

Transferring over Exoddus runs

All full runs and ILs have been transferred to their new places by myself, with every run keeping the original date it was submitted on and any comments by the runner and moderator at the time. Therefore the leaderboard history is exactly the same. All ILs mirror the changes made to Full Runs, for consistency. These runs were all moved to the new categories by myself, with the original date they were submitted and comments maintained.

This was done late at night to save constant notifications, but apologies if you received notifications regarding your runs being moved to the updated format.

Emulator

Like Oddysee, Emulator runs have been added to Abe's Exoddus. This was a long standing issue before I joined the community for reasons I am not aware of, but now there is a functioning autosplitter (provided you use the NTSC version and Duckstation Emulator) and Oddysee allows Emulator runs, there is no reason for them to be banned anymore. So now under System you will see a new option for Emulator.

A huge thank you to NanobotZ for his work in adapting the autosplitter so it works with Exoddus on Duckstation.

Leaderboard Tidy Up

All runs that no longer have video evidence have been removed. Any runner who is able to locate the original footage, please let me know (on here or on Discord) and your previous submission can be reverified.

All runs that were verified by the same person who submitted the run have been reverified by myself.

The main reason for runs being no longer valid were, Twitch VODs no longer accessible, private YouTube videos or video's no longer existing at all on YouTube.

As part of moving tidying the leaderboards, all of my submission were reverified by Bluecandel (thanks again - there were a lot) so that no run is verified by the same person submitting it.

Rules Tighten Up

I don't believe this was stated previously, but moving forward runs will not be acceptable for submission across multiple boards. Despite a 100% run technically qualifying as a Good Ending run, this is not in the spirit of speedrunning. Other communities have observed this behaviour (as has Oddysee) where people attempt to statpad their Speedrun profile in this way, so runs submitted not for the intended category may be rejected at the discretion of the moderators.

There is one exception to the rule and that is that all hardcore runs qualify as 100% NMG runs. Runners are therefore free to submit Hardcore runs to the 100% NMG leaderboard.

Side Issue - Displaying World Record on Livesplit.

As a result of tidying up the leaderboard, old splits runners have on their machines won't display the WR. This is because Livesplit is trying to search for a category that no longer exists. To get your splits to display WR, please follow the short guide here.

I have updated all the full game splits on the resources section to reflect the changes made to the leaderboard. Where splits displayed incorrect information (e.g. Mudokon death totals in Max Casualties categories) this has been updated.

The terminology and layout were based on the Strangers Wrath leaderboard. Thank you to Fxyz for taking the time to show me how things looked behind the scenes.

Hopefully you find the leaderboard tidier than it was previously!
