TL;DR: The Abe’s Exoddus leaderboards have been reorganised for clarity and consistency.

  • Categories reorganised (None have been removed!).
  • New “Unrestricted / NoSS / NMG” category restrictions.
  • Emulator runs now permitted (Duckstation - NTSC version of Exoddus only).
  • Runs without video proof have been removed.

Tidying up the leaderboard. Why do it?

The old leaderboard had 13 different boards, one for each category. While nothing was technically wrong with it, it made the page messy to read. Now the categories have been grouped into main categories with three restriction types (two exceptions). This tidier layout means no more drop-down menus to see everything.

This was how it looked previously

As it was before, the categories are still as follows

  • Any% (Complete the game as quickly possible)
  • 100% (Complete the game and save all Mudokons)
  • Hardcore (Complete the game and save all Mudokons without using Quiksave or Restart Path)
  • Max Casualties (Complete the game and kill as many Mudokons as possible)
  • Good Ending (Complete the game and save atleast 150 Mudokons and exit through the good ending portal)
  • 50/50 (Complete the game with saving and killing half of all available Mudokons)

With each category having three restrictions (Unrestricted, NoSS, NMG), all previous categories are still represented. One category (Hardcore) is an exception to this rule - this is explained further below.

Category Restriction description

  1. Unrestricted (All glitches are allowed)
  2. NoSS (Glitches are allowed apart from Save State Glitches (although Quiksave/Quikload for opening portals is permitted))
  3. NMG (No Major Glitches - a list of allowed minor glitches can be found here.

Note: Unrestricted is a new term that might be familiar to new and current runners.

  • For existing runners, think of Unrestricted as replacing what used to be called Any% or 100%. Unrestricted inherits the same rules from categories like Any%, meaning nothing in the ruleset has changed.

  • Therefore what used to be called an "Any% run" would now be called "Any% Unrestricted run" and a "100% run" would be called "100% Unrestricted)".

Category Restriction Exceptions

Hardcore is the one category that does not have 3 category restriction.

Why is this the case?

Hardcore is a standalone category where players must save all 300 Mudokons without using Quiksave or Restart Path. Because of this, Hardcore is always NMG only.

Now the leaderboard is tidier, there is no need for miscellaneous categories to be hidden. For those interested the main categories were Any%, 100% and Hardcore. All other categories were considered miscellaneous.

For consistency, all categories that can allow Unrestricted, NoSS and NMG category restrictions, will have it. This has lead to the creation of the following new categories

  • Good Ending - Unrestricted
  • 50/50 - Unrestricted
  • 50/50 - NMG

50/50 NMG has been added for consistency. However, more of a "best case/closest possible" approach has been adopted. As it is currently impossible to save and kill 150 Mudokons without glitches, the closest and runner can get to this will be the target instead. This means 50/50 NMG runs will have the goal of finishing the game with 154 Mudokons Saved and 146 Casualties.

Transferring over Exoddus runs

All full runs and ILs have been transferred to their new places by myself, with every run keeping the original date it was submitted on and any comments by the runner and moderator at the time. Therefore the leaderboard history is exactly the same. All ILs mirror the changes made to Full Runs, for consistency. These runs were all moved to the new categories by myself, with the original date they were submitted and comments maintained.

This was done late at night to save constant notifications, but apologies if you received notifications regarding your runs being moved to the updated format.

Emulator

Like Oddysee, Emulator runs have been added to Abe's Exoddus. This was a long standing issue before I joined the community for reasons I am not aware of, but now there is a functioning autosplitter (provided you use the NTSC version and Duckstation Emulator) and Oddysee allows Emulator runs, there is no reason for them to be banned anymore. So now under System you will see a new option for Emulator.

A huge thank you to NanobotZ for his work in adapting the autosplitter so it works with Exoddus on Duckstation.

Leaderboard Tidy Up

All runs that no longer have video evidence have been removed. Any runner who is able to locate the original footage, please let me know (on here or on Discord) and your previous submission can be reverified.

All runs that were verified by the same person who submitted the run have been reverified by myself.

The main reason for runs being no longer valid were, Twitch VODs no longer accessible, private YouTube videos or video's no longer existing at all on YouTube.

As part of moving tidying the leaderboards, all of my submission were reverified by Bluecandel (thanks again - there were a lot) so that no run is verified by the same person submitting it.

Rules Tighten Up

I don't believe this was stated previously, but moving forward runs will not be acceptable for submission across multiple boards. Despite a 100% run technically qualifying as a Good Ending run, this is not in the spirit of speedrunning. Other communities have observed this behaviour (as has Oddysee) where people attempt to statpad their Speedrun profile in this way, so runs submitted not for the intended category may be rejected at the discretion of the moderators.

There is one exception to the rule and that is that all hardcore runs qualify as 100% NMG runs. Runners are therefore free to submit Hardcore runs to the 100% NMG leaderboard.

Side Issue - Displaying World Record on Livesplit.

As a result of tidying up the leaderboard, old splits runners have on their machines won't display the WR. This is because Livesplit is trying to search for a category that no longer exists. To get your splits to display WR, please follow the short guide here.

I have updated all the full game splits on the resources section to reflect the changes made to the leaderboard. Where splits displayed incorrect information (e.g. Mudokon death totals in Max Casualties categories) this has been updated.

The terminology and layout were based on the Strangers Wrath leaderboard. Thank you to Fxyz for taking the time to show me how things looked behind the scenes.

Hopefully you find the leaderboard tidier than it was previously!

UPDATE: 20/10/2023

Formatting has been updated for better readability. Most of the changes are affecting Console only

Individual Level rules:

Global

  • (Updated) All runs must show the save file being loaded in order to be valid.
  • Except for Mines, all runs must show the save file being loaded for PC runs, or the level selection menu for Console runs, in order to be valid.

Mines IL runs are started through the begin screen, therefore this statement wasn't exactly correct. Precision regarding Console runs using level selection menu was added.

Specification regarding Console runs was made for the individual levels:

Disc 1

  • For Console runs, the run ends on the first frame the "Please insert Disc 2" message appears.

Disc 2

  • For Console runs, the run starts through the FeeCo. entry on the level selection screen, and ends on the first frame the final cutscene plays.

Mines Specific Rules

  • For Console runs, the level ends on the first frame the cutscene plays after leaving the boiler, as there are no yellow Mudokon face appearing in this case.

Necrum Specific Rules

  • For Console runs, the level ends on the first frame when the yellow Mudokon face appears after taking one of the wells leading to Mudanchee or Mudomo.

Mudanchee Specific Rules

  • For Console runs, the level ends on the first frame when the yellow Mudokon face appears after taking the final door at the end of the last trial.

Mudomo Specific Rules

  • For Console runs, the level ends on the first frame the yellow Mudokon face appears after taking the final door at the end of the last trial.

FeeCo. Specific Rules

  • For Console runs :
  • For Any% and Any% NoSS, the level ends on the first frame the yellow Mudokon face after taking the train door to Soulstorm Brewery.
  • For others categories, after taking the train to Bonewerkz, the runner is required to load a save made right before getting back to FeeCo. Hub with both Slig Barracks and Bonewerkz completed. The level ends on the first frame the yellow Mudokon face appears after the train door to Soulstorm Brewery.

Bonewerkz Specific Rules

  • For Console runs, the level ends on the first frame the yellow Mudokon face appears after taking the final door at the end of the executive office.

Slig Barracks Specific Rules

  • For Console runs, the level ends on the first frame the yellow Mudokon face appears after taking the final door at the end of the war room.

Hub 1 Specific Rules

  • For Console runs, the level ends on the first frame where Abe has completely entered the final door to Hub 2, as there are no yellow Mudokon face appearing in this case.

Hub 2 Specific Rules

  • For Console runs, a save made right before Hub 2 must be loaded as there are no entry on the Level Select screen. The level starts the first frame the transition from Hub 1 is finished, and ends on the first frame where Abe has completely entered the final door to Hub 3, as there are no yellow Mudokon face appearing in this case.

Hub 3 Specific Rules

  • For Console runs, a save made right before Hub 3 must be loaded as there are no entry on the Level Select screen. The level starts the first frame the transition from Hub 3 is finished, and ends on the first frame where Abe has completely entered the final door to the Boiler, as there are no yellow Mudokon face appearing in this case.

Soulstorm Boiler Specific Rules

  • For Console runs, the level ends on the first frame the final cutscene plays after taking one of the final portals, as there are no yellow Mudokon face appearing in this case.

Category rules:

Glitched categories

  • (Updated) Duplicating Mudokons is not allowed.
  • Duplicating Mudokons is tolerated, but rescuing or killing any duplicated Mudokon will make the run invalid.

Mudokon Duplication is now allowed for glitched categories, unless these duplications are rescued or killed.

Maximum Casualties

  • (Updated) Reach the end of the game with 306 Mudokons killed.
  • This counts all 300 normal Mudokons, plus 6 extra ones.
  • Reach the end of the game with 310 Mudokons killed.
  • This counts all 300 normal Mudokons, plus 10 extra ones.

As of 22/10/2023, 310 is now the maximum Mudokons you can kill in this category. The goal has been modified to match this new amount.

Due to these changes, the runs done on these previous rules have been archived. They can be found at this place: https://www.speedrun.com/posts/atn5z

And that's it for the changes... A lot happened in a short amount of time, many things changed... I'm glad we were all able to pull out everything the best we could! Until next time, stay odd!

UPDATE: 23/08/2023

Grammar has been updated on several rules for better understanding.

Formatting has also been updated for better readability.

General game rules:

  • (Updated) Holding down the enter key will instantly skip any cinematic in the game.
  • Holding down the Enter key will freeze any cinematic in the game, and will only be skipped once the key is released.

This is a left-over from Oddysee's rules, it has been updated to match Exoddus' behavior regarding skipping cutscenes.

  • (Updated) Runs performed on emulators (including RELIVE) are temporarily banned.
  • Runs performed on emulators or RELIVE are temporarily banned.

RELIVE isn't an emulator. That rule has been rephrased to avoid confusion.

  • (Updated) Save glitches are those that involve some kind of quiksave / quikload corruption on the game.
  • Save glitches are those that involve some kind of save / load corruption on the game through Quiksaves or normal saves.

Normal saves weren't mentioned as part of save glitches, implicitly suggesting they were allowed. They apply to the same rules as QS/QL glitches.

Category rules:

Global

  • (Updated) The backwards jump glitch for going through the walls or OOB is not allowed.
  • Auto-turn delay in order to go through floors/walls thanks to glitches like the backward jump is not allowed.

Only backward jump was mentioned here, implicitly suggesting going through floors thanks to the auto-turn delay alone was allowed. ATD is now mentioned being prohibited as a whole.

  • (Updated) Quicksave/quickload glitches are not allowed.
  • Save glitches are not allowed.

This now covers save glitches as a whole. See general game rules for a definition of save glitches.

100% NMG

  • (Added) Duplicating Mudokons is not allowed.

The rule was missing, Mudokon duplication is banned in every category.

Max. Casualties NMG

  • (Updated) - Kill all 276 Mudokons possible and reach the end of the game.
  • Reach the end of the game with 277 Mudokons killed.
  • This counts 276 normal Mudokons, plus an extra one.

As of 23/08/2023, 277 is now the maximum Mudokons you can kill in this category. The goal has been modified to match this new amount.

Max. Casualties

  • (Updated) Kill all 293 out of 302 Mudokons possible, and reach the end of the game.
  • Nine will be unkillable. No mudokons need to be rescued to progress.
  • Reach the end of the game with 306 Mudokons killed.
  • This counts all 300 normal Mudokons, plus 6 extra ones.

As of 23/08/2023, 306 is now the maximum Mudokons you can kill in this category. The goal has been modified to match this new amount.

Max. Casualties NoSS

  • (Updated) Kill all 286 out of 302 Mudokons possible, and reach the end of the game.
  • Reach the end of the game with 287 Mudokons killed.
  • This counts 284 normal Mudokons, plus 3 extra ones.

As of 23/08/2023, 287 is now the maximum Mudokons you can kill in this category. The goal has been modified to match this new amount.

Due to these changes, the runs done on these previous rules have been archived. They can be found at this place: https://www.speedrun.com/posts/eg0xj

Other changes:

  • Game cover have been updated to cleaner one. Comparison

Thanks you for taking your time reading this update note. Stay odd!

UPDATE: 10 - 06 - 2022

Updated grammar on various rules to make them easier to understand.

Main Rules

  • (Removed Rule) If a run has been submitted with single-core affinity without the runner's knowledge, then IGT will be increased by 20%. However, if the run features single core affinity exclusive strats or it is determined that the runner tampered with it manually, then the run will be invalidated.

This rule isn’t needed. The runner should be aware that the game has been altered. If it has been determined that a game file was modified, or some other external software was used, the run will no longer be valid.

  • (Removed Rule) Foreign versions are allowed.

Seems redundant. They have never been forbidden.

  • (Moved Rule) Duplicating mudokons on any category will not be accepted, whether it's done for saving them or killing them.

The rule was put onto every category specifically.

Category Specific

Moved Hardcore to the misc section on the game page. This isn’t technically a ‘main’ category. It’s more suitable to be put with the other miscellaneous sections.

All rule updates can be found on the main forum page. https://www.speedrun.com/abe2/thread/ly691

UPDATE: 19 - 05 - 2022

Due to the additions of console submissions, Necrum and Feeco Depot can no longer be completed the same way for both systems.

Necum has been resolved with the new rule addition that was added below.

Feeco Depot, however, can not be completed without doing multiple loads and saves. A discussion will have to be had within the community to determine what to do at a later date.

(New Rule Necum IL for Console Runs) Console Specific Rules - Since the runner can not load the save files provided in the PC pack. The endpoints for runs will be different.

- Any category involving mudokens will require the runner to do both of the secrets first, the run will then end as soon as the player enters the Mudanchee well.

- Any category that does not involve mudokens will end as soon as the runner enters the Mudanchee well.

Rules specified

  • All runs will end as soon as the player enters into the Mudanchee/Mudomo/Feeco well.
  • 100% categories will require the player to do both secrets in Necrum (The one at the beginning of the level and the pre Mudanchee secret) before finishing the run.
  • Any% runs must be completed by the Feeco well using the wheel Glitch.
