What are vert slowdowns?

I saw the term "vert slowdown" in the category rules of Highscore, but I don't know what it means, I don't wanna submit runs with inaccurate data.

United States

Verts are the vertically moving obstacles, the ones that move up and down. They stay still for a while when they're first loaded in. Usually this time is short enough that you don't notice, but if you're going quick enough you can reach them and touch them before they begin moving, and they won't kill you. That's what a vert slowdown is.

They're super powerful since they bring you to a complete stop. The current world record uses one three times. 4:08, 5:06, and 5:22 are the times.

The moderators should have refrained from using terminology that's only known by the inner circle, especially in the official rules.

This board should try and remain as welcoming to newcomers as possible.

agree. including a definition to the rules could be helpful

For as long as High Score has existed on this leaderboard, there has been a description for Vert Slowdowns while submitting runs. Evidently, this isn't clear enough, so a similar description is now in the category rules.

People want to understand the rules before doing runs. Why would the clarification only be available while submitting runs, the point at which it's expected that the user already completed a run?

Oh I didn't even notice a description was in the run submission area, I guess I could've looked harder :P

nah you shouldn't have to
