Emulator Leaderboard Changes
Posted 1 year ago by

Sup gamers,

The emulator leaderboards have been updated.

PCSX2 1.6.0 was and is still the fastest version of the emulator, but it comes with the problems of input delay and instability such as frame drops and graphical issues. Tons of runs were done on this version, and loading times on 1.6.0 are exponentially faster than 2.0, so it made it difficult to make 2.0 the standardized version.

As a solution, we have decided to split the old 1.6.0 leaderboards into their own variable and create a new leaderboard for PCSX2 versions 2.0, and any future versions ahead of it.

PCSX2 2.0 and beyond has much better stability and far less input delay, making it much more comfortable to run on. However, it does not support 32 bit operating systems so the previous 1.6.0 leaderboards will still be open for submissions.

Speedhacks were also previously banned on the 1.6.0 leaderboards for an arbitrary reason, so this ban has been lifted for the 1.6.0 leaderboards and people can now use the speedhack presets built into the emulator, which make the game more stable to run but also decrease loading times.

For PCSX2 2.0 and beyond, emulator settings are also allowed to be changed.

The current known best emulation settings are:

  • EE Cycle Rate: 300% (Overclock) - This decreases loads and helps the game run smoother.

  • V-Sync turned off - This eliminates more input delay. Alternatively, you can set the Maximum Frame Latency to 1ms.

  • Enable CDVD Precaching - Further helps performance
