Hello and welcome to this guide for BlubBlub: Quest of the Blob in which you will learn all you need to know to complete a speedrun of this game.

Introduction

THis game is a 2D platformer and don't let the cute aesthetics fool you into thinking this run is gonna be easy peasy lemon squeezy because this game has some pretty tricky elements to it. The first thing are the controls, especially the jumping. There is a double-jump mechanic but it's a bit wonky so in order to actually douple-jump you kinda need to mash your jump button. Another tricky part of the run is the timing of enemies and obstacles. When you arrive in a section with time-based cycles, for example moving saw blades they are sometimes on a different cycle compared to restarting from a checkpoint after you die. This means in some parts of the game it is important to catch the first cycle to be fast. Then there's the "super-jump" which is an exploit that let's you jump really high and is a bit tricky to perform. A few words on controlling this game: it is possible to play this game with keyboard as well as with controller. From my experience I would highly recommend playing with keyboard since the sumper-jump requires a lot of button mashing and that's way easier using your spacebar than with a controller button.

#Level 1-1 First of all skip the cutscene with Escape or Start and select the level with Spacebar or the A-Button. Most of this level is pretty self-explanatory. The parts that are a bit more tricky are the two sections with the moving saw blades. My tip is to learn the timing and always jump over a blade while it's moving torwards you.

#Level 1-2 At the beginning of the level there are syringes being shot downwards from two holes in the ceiling. I am still not entirely sure how the cycles work but it feels kinda random. The safest way to pass by is to wait until the syringe is being shot and then walk by. You can try to just YOLO it and go right without stopping but that bears the risk of being hit. Right after this part there is a section with six big syringes in a pit with a platform above. When jumping to the right from the platform make sure to not double-jump since that would launch you into the heat-seeking (or rather: blob-seeking) missile above. Instead jump and after falling for a fraction of a second press jump again to do a little air-hop. After taking the elevator the first super-jump is coming up. This trick exploits the fact that upon touching a platform your double-jump gets reset so by mashing the jump button you can jump really high trough vertical platform sections. While being chased by the swarm of blob-seeking missiles you can either jump over the big crate and the spikes and let yourself get hit by the missiles intentionallysince taking an intenional death gets rid of the missiles and respawns you right there. Make sure to not die to the spikes because that will reset you to the previous checkpoint which is further away. You can also outurn the missiles. Now you can do a small super-jump again to climb the platforms. In the last section of this level it is important to practice the timing of your jumps because jumping too high will result in getting hit by missiles. Make sure to skip the cutscene at the end of the level.

Level 2-1

There's not much to say about this level. At the end however there is a section with platforms and lasers that lets you super-jump to the top. This one is pretty tricky and you need to take the cycles of the lasers into account. This will need some practice.

Level 2-2

While being chased by the first blob-seeking missiles you can jump down a platform-laser section. You need to be pretty precise to make it down in time without getting hit by the lasers. When you have passed the lasers that are attached at a 45 degree angle make sure not to double-jump over the spikes but do an air-hop instead to avoid getting hit by the missile. When encountering the first enemy scientist you can jump over them but if that's not working you can run back, jump on the crate and jump over the enemy from there. Both versions are rather precise jumps because the enemies turn around very quickly so if your timing is a bit off you will get hit by them. Skip the cutscene at the end.

#Level 3 As with the scientists jumping over the cops can be pretty tricky. I use visual cues to know when I need to jump. For the first cop it's the line between the tiles of the pavement right under the poster with the person wearing sunglasses. Once I pass that line I jump. It's similar for the other cops as well. For the second one I use the line under the poster, for the third one I use the door in the background and for the last cop I use the line to the right of the traffic cone. Other than that, try to avoid walking up the windshields of cars since that slows you down. Don't forget to skip the cutscene at the end.

Level 4

If you wanna be fast make sure to hold to the right as soon as the level has been selected and don't make any mistakes while jumping over the crates because otherwise you will get hit by the first laser. When arriving at the yellow platforms you can do another super-jump to climb this secion quickly. Jumping over the first scientist right afterwards is the same old but the second enemy is more difficult since they throw syringes. You can either jump over them right away but if that doesn't work you can catch their attention and lure them to the platform, then jump over them from there without getting hit by a syringe. In the section with the yellow plaforms, the spikes and the blob-seeking missiles you can hide from the projectiles under the platforms. I'm pretty sure there is a faster way to do this but this is the safe way.

Boss Fight

First of all It should be noted that it is possible to softlock in this fight. This happens when the game for some reason resets you onto the spikes after dying. When this happens you can quit to the main menu and select "Continue" to start the fight again. In this last level you get the ability to shoot. Immediatly go to the right while shooting. After hitting Jennifer three times she will teleport to the platform above her. Jump onto the lower platform on the right and hit her three more times while jumping. She will then teleport to the upper platform to the right. Jump and hit her four more times to win. GG!
