Alan Wake Forum  /  A question about the rules...
  SirArthvrSirArthvr

As I was reading the recent update to the rules, I encountered that now it says that the time is measured in RTA, without pausing the timer in between. So, this last part about not pausing the timer in between... does it mean that pausing the game (as well as the timer) is not permited? or does it refer just to the fact that the time the game is paused is not counted? I think that part could be better explained 🙂

Every RTA does not pause the timer ever, hence the name Real Time Attack. It seems like redundancy to say no pausing. The alternative would be an IGT, In Game Time(r).

For RTA, the only questions that matter are when does time officially start and end for any given game.

Thanks for the response Turbodog, maybe I am not that used to runs measured in RTA. But you didn't really answer my question. I'm still wondering if it's not permited to pause the game. If I make a run and I need to pause the game in between, my run doesn't count? (being the case when I pause my timer as well as the game in the same time, of course)

I am not a mod for this game. Typically, you can pause the game in an RTA run, but the timer will continue. You may not stop the timer until you finish. This usually means getting a separate timer program that tracks real time rather than the game's built in timer.

You usually do not want to pause the game in an RTA run unless you are trying to do something very specific like pause buffering to ensure something will work consistently.

Oh ok, I get your point now. Thank you for the answer and for giving me that insight. I guess I'll have to wait for tduva to answer me, since he is the mod for this game 🙂

Turbodog is correct. You may not pause the timer at all during an RTA run, whether you pause the game or not. One reason for this is that it's a simpler way of timing, you just measure the time between start and end of the run. As opposed to that, for example for the run you submitted before the rule clarification (it was always intended to be RTA, but not stated) I had to time every pause you did and calculate the end time accordingly to verify it. Not that I don't believe your time, but I need to verify it (I actually made the run a second shorter because you stopped the timer too late at the end :P). It just causes more potential issues to allow pausing of the timer at all.

I just use the auto splitter the only time I need to do anything is at the end everything else is done for me RTA is shown and RTA with loads removed is there as well.

So if you're on PC it's probably better to just run with the auto splitter.

Any reason why the original Alan wake doesn’t have a seperate glitchless category like the remaster does

  DaagiaDaagia

because this game doesnt rly need a glitchless category there are only little tricks to safe time but nothing that would give a reason give it an extra category i am not sure why they did it for the remaster.

  Droogie4EverDroogie4Ever

The time between Any% and Glitchless for the remaster world records is pretty different. 3 hours for Any%, 4 and a half for glitchless. So...something is different between the 2.

  DaagiaDaagia

i mean the time between the first and last place in this game is big too and the remaster does not have any new skips as far as i know so it comes down to the players skill in the game which makes it look like there would be some kind of crazy new skips and such.

  CheevohntingCheevohnting

Would the skips in the original game work in the remaster

  DaagiaDaagia

most of them work in the remaster there are just some that have been fixed due to some terrain changes

Any reason why there's two cat's apparently alan wake og doesn't have any glitches so i would expect that the remaster is the same
