Yeah the game will do that, it's why in most runs you'll see the runner just running past the enemies and stopping in the lights if too many swarm them

The ennemi never Despawn. but in the game script the enemies are waiting for you to come out of the light. They are invisible but they always remain there and if an enemy approaches too quickly.

the goal of the NPCs when you enter the light is not to attack you first, second they go as far as possible so as not to disturb the safe checkpoint !

just to say that the NPCs always stay there but it's an advantage to be in a light because they will move away and leave you with an advantage to go forward. not provided for in the game. Enemies aren't really a problem in this game. Even if it's stressful.

In my opinion it is better to go as quickly as possible while passing the lights. than waste time confronting them or justifying their presence !
