How to Adjust the Time of a Top 3 Any% Run
Updated 11 months ago by aleckermit

Because there are so many ways to run this game (four different consoles and various unofficial ways, all with varying load times) and because accessibility and fairness should be top priority, full-game runs in the top 3 placement range will have their final real-time adjusted so that they'll be on-par with one performed on a black Wii with an official game disc (the fastest official method of beating the game), removing any load time advantage/disadvantage. This allows players on all consoles and emulators and in any region to submit runs and compete on even ground and gives full top competition accessibility to all.

If you submit a potentially top 3 Any% run that is NOT played on a black Wii with official disc, do the following:

  1. Subtract your totaled IGT from your real time, example: 39:33 - 33:46. This equals 5m47s.

  2. Subtract 5m33s (the difference between the black Wii's real and IGT, using the latest strats) from 5m47s, this equals 14 seconds.

  3. Watch the run for any unused real time timesavers, deaths, mission restarts, or the presence of AFK and subtract that time loss from 14. For example if the player does not skip the kitchen cutscene in Bad D, subtract 3 seconds. If the player dies/restarts a mission, subtract the entire cost of that timeloss, etc.

  4. In our example we've ended up with 14 seconds remaining, this means our run was 14 seconds slower due strictly to load times so we'll subtract the 14 seconds from our run, equaling 39:19. This is the time we would have gotten if we played on a black Wii with official disc.

This method can be reliably applied to any run on any console/emulator.

NOTE: If new real time timesavers are found, their time save must be subtracted from 5m33s to create a new standard to compare to.
