Im new but thought it would be interesting to go through the leaders for the island runs. Then make a guide to the actual engrams and total items needed to be crafted to do a run. As well as possible character builds. Thoughts on this?
So you want a summary of all of the materials needed for a run in total as well as which engrams?
Well either way, I did some calculations and here are the total items I make.
1 Stone Pick 1 Stone Hatchet 1 Parachute 1 Bola 2 Campfires 1 Full set of hide armor 1 Full set of ghillie armor 1 Cryopod 1 Rex Saddle 1 Pteranodon Saddle 1 Ichthyosaurus Saddle ~15 Tranq Arrows 2 Grappling Hooks 1 Crossbow 4 Refining Forges 1 Smithy 1 Mortar and Pestle 2 Thatch foundations ? Arrows
Without adding in the wood it takes to smelt all of the metal and cook food, dino taming food, etc. I also left out the amount of arrows I make as it varies a lot from run to run and I even forgot to include my bow at the start. I'm sure there's even more I forgot but here's the current amount it adds up to:
1105 Hide 771 Fiber 119 Thatch 632 Stone 11 Flint 148 Wood 142 Metal 83 Chitin 15 Spoiled Meat 75 Narcoberries 34 Organic Polymer (you need more since it spoils) 10 Crystal 4 Oil
Keep in mind by the way that the amount of resources and what resources vary MASSIVELY depending on the strategy and route used and within the run you need to adapt a lot so it varies each run as well, like if you are about to die from rabies and need to quickly place down a sleeping bag. Also worth keeping in mind that as we evolve newer and better strategies we will end up using older strategies less and the amount of resources will change so what I put there only applies to me and it will only apply for so long. I plan on changing up the strategy even just tomorrow.
In terms of character builds, upon spawning in I do:
250 Health 200 Stamina 200 Oxygen 150 Food 150 Water 250 Weight 264 Fortitude And then I dump all remaining points into speed.
This is also subject to change as some people may need less total health.
I do not recommend lvl up stamina on the character (it is my opinion) because you can always collect stimberries (eat 1 stimberry in 1 second to get stamina = infinite run) from the bushes while running ... if you think that you will encumbered by another type of berries them put red, yellow, blue and majoberries on the hot bar and eat them ... narcoberries will automatically stuck in your inventory before you get some spoiled meat for narcotics.
If you made speedrun on the Island then you must have 244 fortitude max ... not more (and hide armor). Oxygen may be 200. HP and WE you can split by your choice. But if you want sprint caves with high speed then you must know that with MS more than 300 you will stuck as much as you MS will exceed 300 value. 300-330 is comfortable.
When choosing a dino, consider the resources for its saddle.
I recommend 4+ forges (8max) for quick smelting metal. Metal is so op because you can craft grappling hooks. Grappling hooks allow you fly in any cave. Also you can quick climb up from the bottom in caves (skipping encounters with unwanted inhabitants).
1 grappling hook for swamp cave (Art of the Immune) (shorten the path) + 3 hooks for swamp cave (Art of the Pack) (shorten the path by the water and shorten the path at the entrance to the cave on the way back)
