Coin duplication glitch

Coins can be duplicated by dying within a short window (~.1s) after collecting them. In theory, any method of death can be used, but in most cases the easiest method is with the Normtrooper's pistol blasts. When the player is on one life left, wait until you see the Normtrooper raise their pistol and then carefully time the coin grab to be just before the laser hits. You can tell if he duplication was successful in the split second where the game freezes before the "You Died!" screen pops up. If the golden "explosion" sprite is there, the dupe was successful. If the coin is still there, you moved too late and did not collect the coin. If there is no coin or explosion, you collected the coin too early and will need to attempt the dupe on a different coin.

Both golden and regular coins can be duped. It has been confirmed to be possible to dupe coins with collision damage from the Normtrooper, but it is not known if it is more reliable anywhere. Obstacle damage is harder to dupe with due to its unmoving nature, meaning that the player has to very quickly get from the coin to the obstacle. There is one location in level 2 where a golden coin can be duped with an obstacle. There may be other possible locations.

Out of Arena glitch

I discovered this glitch while chasing sub-9. It seems highly unlikely to be useful in saving time in a run, but can be useful for exploring the arena for potential routing, or even creating challenge runs where you have to play against multiple Doofs. It's a serious challenge just to be able to survive long enough to summon 3 Doofs in level 3!

In the Doof arena, there is an invisible wall placed just at the left edge of the screen. However, a double jump leftwards from the left platform can get you over this wall. From there, you will not be able to see Perry, but can still control him. Due to the walls very close to you, it takes some practice to get a feel for controlling Perry in this state. Your best bet is likely to hold down for a few seconds to get to the ground. On the ground, you can move left to re-trigger the cutscene.

When the cutscene is re-triggered, a second Doof will appear. However, the original will not, and will continue to attack. For this reason, it is often difficult to survive through this cutscene, and it is recommended to begin with full health, even in level 1, and this is not always enough to survive, especially in later levels.

If you do die during the cutscene, an interesting glitch will occur when you try to respawn. Perry will be invisible, and the cutscene trigger can't be triggered. There will also be black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. You can still control Perry as normal, the camera still moves as normal (although it looks and feels much stranger as seems to follow nothing), and generally most things work as normal. However, with no way to trigger the cutscene, there is no way to beat the level. Interestingly, however, it also means that you camera is no longer fixed in the arena and a number of areas previously unseeable can be seen.

If you get past the cutscene, you're now in a battle with two doofs. Getting health ASAP will be key to surviving. Once you've done that, you can defeat the doofs independently. Defeating either is sufficient to beat the level. Note that they will both attack, but you will also get twice the supplies. Perhaps the largest struggle will be that you will also get twice the "resets," crippling the rate at which you can do damage. Staffs can be especially powerful in these fights, as you can potentially get four hits per throw, two on each doof.

If you happen to die right at the end of the cutscene, the animation of the black bars disappearing up and down will repeat until you respawn.

In theory, you should be able to die after defeating a doof. I'm not sure what happens in this scenario.

Weapons glitches

Here's a couple glitches I discovered a while back when chasing my sub-9:

# Left Wall Glitch

When dropping a weapon (staff or blaster), it has a period of time where it flashes and cannot be picked up. If thrown leftwards, it is able to clip into walls. When a weapon is clipped into a wall, it rises up until it hits either the top of the level or a higher floor. This glitch can be used to get weapon in places that they otherwise could not be brought, as one cannot double-jump or wall climb with a weapon. However, it is not yet known to save time anywhere.

I got right-wall glitch once or twice, but only with dozens of attempts. It seems likely that is is close to pixel-perfect. Unfortunately, I don't have any footage of it. This may be more useful in saving time by allowing you to get a weapon into the arena quickly.

# Weapon in arena

There is an invisible barrier when entering the Doof arena where the player looses control of Perry and the cutscene starts. If you attempt to bring a weapon across this barrier, you will loose it.. However, you can drop a weapon right before the barrier to have it cross the barrier, and then pick it up during the cutscene. Note that you will need to wait for it to finish flashing so that it can be picked back up. This is because you cannot go back far enough during the fight to get to it, even using out of arena glitches. This lost time would likely offset most or all of the time gained, so it would be necessary to get a weapon to that spot while loosing minimal time. This is not currently known to be possible, especially in levels 2 and 3 where it would be much more useful than level 1. Therefore, this does not currently save time. However, if it was possible to reliably get a right-wall glitch, it would likely save time in level 3, as the additional wait timer would run out earlier and not cause additional delay, and the difference in routing would not cost as much time as it would save.
