why cant we just use a regular timer, we have to use an "autosplitter". either way were still getting the same results and its just a timer to see how long the run is
Even if all timing was manually grabbed from the video footage by the mods to see exactly how long a run was, it's still better for the runners to be able to have the program auto-start and make splits for them so that they're constantly aware of where they are time-wise. Also, autosplitter disables load times and allows the use of timing via IGT.
Leaderboard timing is default LRT - we use the autosplitter to remove the load times. It is fine to not activate the autosplitter via LiveSplit for shorter categories, but for the longer categories, it becomes a very big hassle to manually time runs and remove load times, especially with tons of runs being submitted.
As stated by the rules, Livesplit (and subsequently the autosplitter) is required for all runs submitted.
If you are streaming it's also very useful for the viewers, as the timer is clearly displayed.
Plus it's consistent across runs so if anyone is pacing for a record, it makes judging clear to the second.
