## Which difficulty should I play on?

Generally, chill is the standard. The reasoning for that is mostly because item cost is lower. Although collapse speed is also slower and perfect landings are easier to get which is very desirable.

*Important to note:* Difficulty doesn't affect Zoe's acceleration or top speed at all

## What does item rarity do?

Item rarity shifts the chance of item categories to make common items appear less often and rare to legendary appear more often. ## What does luck do?

Luck increases the likelihood of chance-based items triggering by multiplying the item's probability by your luck stat.

Visualising luck as fractions should make it clear:

- You have a base of 100% luck -> 1.0

- You also have an item that gives 50% luck -> 0.5

- Effective luck would be 100% + 50% = 150% -> 1.5

- An item has a 10% chance of triggering -> 0.1

- Multiply by your 150% luck -> 0.1 * 1.5 = 0.15

- Item has an effective 15% chance of triggering

## What does boost do?

Boost acts as an increase to Zoe's acceleration, and has a visual indicator by way of an orange glow on Zoe's shoes.

## What does energy do?

Energy is what's required to use your ability (Board, Cowl, etc.) and this also has a visual indicator with a yellow bar above your health. Just like health, the energy bar has notches on it, which the bar needs to be filled past in order to use your ability. (Only exception is Hourglass which can be used before the first notch)

## What determines how many antisparks I get from a shard?

You always get a minimum of 8 antisparks. Then an additional amount is added to that, determined by the base difficulty of the shard, and how many fragments you cleared.

If you won the shard, a win bonus is also added. And if it was your first time completing the shard, a second win bonus. The amount is then multiplied by a win multiplier

Finally, the full amount is multiplied by a constant value

## How do I unlock items faster?

For every 150 antisparks you gain, you will be eligible to unlock another item when you exit the next shard.

However, this counter will be reduced if you buy an ability, going into the negatives. This will make it take longer to unlock the next item.

So the fastest way to unlock items would be to continuously clear shard 10 without buying abilities.

If you want to know how many more antisparks you need for the next unlock, [In-Game Stats](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3457771863) has an option to show that, or you can open the facts menu in the debug console and find the fact titled "meta_progression_resource_for_item_unlock".

## What are the best items?

There isn't really a good answer to this, because most items are good when paired with other items. The "best" items would probably be between the Plutonium Coin and Rocket Boots since they are extremely good on their own, on top of being common items. Although, most any item that gives boost or energy will be good, with a few exceptions.

Rather than worrying about which items specifically are the "best", you'll want to think about the items you currently have and what works best with them.

## Which ability is the best?

As of writing this answer, the Cowl and Javelin are the most used abilities. The Cowl is usually considered to be a bit better due to being easier to use and having more energy notches. The Board and Hourglass are about equally unused.

## Why isn't the fixed seed setting producing expected results?

When you enter a shard using the fixed seed setting, the seed used for that shard takes the fixed seed, and then adds shard ID * 100 to it. This was a measure to fix an unintended side effect of the fixed seed setting.

So if you want to use a seed you saw, you will need to subtract shard ID * 100 from it.

*Important to note:* Shard IDs start at 0 and go to 9. That means if you get a seed from the first shard, you don't need to subtract anything as nothing would have been added.

## Why won't the console open when I press F1?

The console isn't actually usable by default. Installing a mod exposes it for debug purposes. We recommend having [Landfall Speedrunning Tools](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3448839996) since it is required for speedrunning anyway.

## How long will it take for my run to be verified?

It really comes down to how busy we are. Everyone has a life outside Haste, so it may take a while in some cases. Generally though, it shouldn't take more than a few days, with up to a week being about the worst.

## How do I set up LiveSplit/autosplitting?

For LiveSplit, [this tutorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq2MCodtH34) is great for getting started.

For autosplitting, you need the [Landfall Speedrunning Tools](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3448839996) mod.

You will need to configure your LiveSplit splits to work correctly with it. Open your in-game settings and navigate to the "Speedrunning" tab at the top. This is where all your autosplitting settings are located. [This guide](https://www.speedrun.com/HASTE_Broken_Worlds/guides/l23g8) will tell you at what point all the settings will make LiveSplit split. The only ones that are required are as follows:

**For individual shard runs**

- Split on start new run

- Split on boss death (or Split on end boss win if running shard 10)

**For full game runs**

- Split on main menu play button

- Split on end boss win

Any splits between those required are up to you.

## How do I run the demo if I can't install the speedrun mod?

The demo actually has a built-in autosplitter! You need to be on the main menu with livesplit open, then press shift+f3 to activate it.

# Miscellaneous Questions

## Can I host an event/help with any?

Yes! Head over to [#community-events](https://discord.com/channels/1345991899017773096/1364741069106970776) in our Discord server, and you can either create your own post, or ask if you can help in other posts.

## How do I take part in a race/event?

First, we use [racetime.gg](https://racetime.gg/) as the hosting site, so you'll need to make an account on there.

Second, events are posted in [#community-events](https://discord.com/channels/1345991899017773096/1364741069106970776) in our Discord server. Head over there to find one that looks interesting to join.

Third, you'll want to have the @Racer role from [#Channels-&-Roles](https://discord.gg/RbRUvmmnsN) so that you will be notified when the event is starting.

On top of that, some events have their own designated role, so you might want to check if the event you are interested in has one.

Fourth, make sure you are familiar with the rules for the event you want to join, and then sign up.

After that, just wait for the time to roll around and show up. The exact steps to follow once the event starts may be different for each event, so again you'll want to check the post for the event to see what you are expected to do.

## I see some people have badges, how do I get them?

Badges related to records or races will often be given out over time, but for the ones like hours played, run attempts, etc. you will need to ask and provide proof of your accomplishment in [this channel in our Discord server](https://discord.com/channels/1345991899017773096/1366155530355081436).

## How do I run a previous version of HASTE? (downpatching)

The first step is opening the Steam console. To do so, copy and paste **steam://nav/console** into your browser's address bar, and press enter.

Now you will need to use the **download_depot (App ID) (Depot ID) (Manifest ID)** command. For that, you'll need to go to the [SteamDB page for HASTE.](https://steamdb.info/app/1796470/)

The **App ID** should always be **1796470**.

The **Depot ID** relates to the platform of the build. Scroll down to the "Depots" section and find the depot associated with your platform (Windows, Mac, Linux). Then copy the ID listed on the left.

For the **Manifest ID**, click on the Depot ID you just copied. From this page, select "Manifests" from the list on the left side. Now you will need to use the dates to figure out which Manifest ID is the one you need.

Your full command should now look something like this:
**download_depot 1796470 1796471 8779729642434314865**
(This would be for version 1.3.a)

Paste that command into the Steam console and run it. You will know the download is finished when a message is printed to the console saying, "Depot Download Complete : (filepath)". Copy that filepath and paste it into your file explorer.

From here, select and copy everything in the folder. Now find HASTE's install location for your specific platform and delete all the files in that folder (Don't worry, saves are not stored here). Then paste the newly downloaded files in.

Lastly, make sure you put Steam into offline mode so it doesn't automatically update HASTE. You can do this by clicking "Steam" -> "Go Offline" in the top left of Steam.

And with that you should be ready to launch HASTE in an old version!

How to Restart Boss Fragments for Practicing

There isn't a native way to restart bosses, but there is a hacky solution which is what this guide will be talking about.

# Getting to the boss

Firstly, to restart a boss you need to actually make it to the boss. You have three options for that.

**Option 1:** Just play through a full shard. Simple enough.

**Option 2:** After entering a shard, while in the level selection screen (the "map" if you will), you can use the console command **'LevelSelectionHandler.PlayNode #'** to play a fragment at any position. The number you need to provide in order to play the boss fragment is the number of fragments in the shard. And it isn't a static value so you'll need to count them all, minus the first forced fragment.

**Option 3:** You can download the save files from [this resource](https://www.speedrun.com/HASTE_Broken_Worlds/resources/e0jxn) and copy+paste the one corresponding to the boss you want to practice into your save folder. Then you will need to rename it to "save/save1/save2.haste" the save number depends on which save slot you want to use. Then, on the main menu, go into settings and select the slot that you renamed the save file to. After that, press continue and you should be loaded at the boss fragment.

Before entering the boss fragment you can give yourself items if you wish. You can also change the active ability by using the command **'MetaProgression.ActivateAbility (ability id)'.** The ability IDs are as follows: **'BoardBoost', 'Slomo', 'Grapple', 'Fly'**

As an additional quality of life option, when at the boss fragment you can use the command **'SaveSystem.SaveToTempSave'** which will effectively create a "snapshot" of your current data to be loaded back at any time. This temp save persists after closing the game as well so you don't need to re-save every time. This is especially useful if there's one boss you like to practice a lot.

To load the temp save, use the command **'SaveSystem.LoadTempSave'.** After loading your save however, you will need to press continue from the main menu to actually be loaded back into the shard where you saved.

Binding the load command to a hotkey will make this process just that tiny bit more bearable.

# Restarting the boss

Now that you've made it to the boss, how do you actually restart it?

Really the only way is by dying. This means if you use the command **'PlayerData.SetCurrentHealth 0'** Zoe will die, and the boss fragment will restart. But obviously this will have you end up losing the shard once Zoe loses all her lives. However, you can also use the command **'GameLoop.AddLife'** so that Zoe never dies.

Binding both commands to the same hotkey through the "Hotkeys" tab in the console will give you an instant boss restart at the press of a button.

**Important drawback to be aware of:**
If you fail or win the shard, you won't be able to restart so you will need to re-enter the shard in that case. Remember to restart before killing the boss and always stay topped up on lives using the AddLife command.

# How to activate the Livesplit Autosplitter for HASTE

1.  Open Livesplit and HASTE: Broken Worlds
2.  In Livesplit make sure you have 5 splits set up (i.e Tutorial 1, Tutorial 2, Hub, World, Boss)
3.  On the main menu press Shift+f3
4.  Now Livesplit will automatically start and split for you

Save Set-up Guide

# Backup Main Save

Before you follow this guide, if you would like to back up your main save file/keep it safe. Go to *"Program Files (x86) > Steam > userdata > (user-id) > 1796470 > remote"* and put it in a safe spot.

# Workshop Tool

This tool is made directly by Landfall and is very easy to set up. Go to [this link](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3448839996) and subscribe to the workshop mod. Then, once you open the game, you can go to the settings, enable the splitter, and choose when you want it to split. Make sure these settings comply with category rules.

# Save File

To set up the save file, go to *"Program Files (x86) > Steam > userdata > (user-id) > 1796470 > remote"* and put the save file in this directory. Make sure to rename the file to "save", "save1", "save2", depending on which slot you want it to be in.

# Reseting/Batch Set-up (NOT NECCESARY)

You could keep reimporting the file into the save folder, or you can set up this batch file!

First copy the text above and put it into a text file. The change where it says \examplename\ to whatever your system name is. Then, change any of the directories if needed. Click on File in the top left -> Save As -> Rename it to any name you want, just make sure it ends in *".bat"* & *"Save as Type"* is set to all files.

Now that you have set-up the batch file, whenever you want to reset, you can close your game and run the bat file.

Setting up LiveSplit on Linux

This guide will help you get LiveSplit running on Linux so that you can use it with the autosplitter built into the 'Speedrunning Tools' mod. We're using the Windows-native version of LiveSplit (so NOT LiveSplitOne), so we'll need to run LiveSplit under Proton, and configure LiveSplit for autosplitting.

## Setting up Proton

1. Download the latest version of LiveSplit from the LiveSplit website: [https://livesplit.org/downloads](https://livesplit.org/downloads)
2. Extract the downloaded ZIP archive and move the folder to where you want your LiveSplit installation to reside (e.g. your Home folder, /opt/LiveSplit, etc..)
3. Open Steam and go to your library, then click "Add a Game" in the bottom left: ![](https://i.imgur.com/CxAfGAS.png)
4. Choose "Add a Non-Steam Game..."
5. Click "Browse..." and navigate to the folder to which you extracted LiveSplit and select "LiveSplit.exe": ![](https://i.imgur.com/fUNZcO9.png)
6. Click "Add Selected Programs"
7. LiveSplit.exe should now appear in your Steam Library. We'll now configure it to run in Proton. Right-click the LiveSplit.exe entry in your Steam Library  and choose "Properties...": ![](https://i.imgur.com/Nm1lSNY.png)
8. In the "Compatibility" tab, tick "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" and select "Proton Hotfix". You can also use a different Proton version, if you want. ![](https://i.imgur.com/xoK56S6.png)
9. Close out of the properties window and run LiveSplit from within Steam.  Steam will download Proton the first time you use it, and then the LiveSplit window should pop up.

Now, LiveSplit should be running. There is one caveat: It seems like LiveSplit may not stay on top of the game window when HASTE is running in fullscreen and the fix appears to depend on your window manager. You can still add LiveSplit as a source in OBS to have it be recorded, or move LiveSplit to a second monitor if available.

## Setting up the autosplitter

1. Right-click the LiveSplit window and click "Start TCP Server" in the "Control" tab. This must be done **every time you start LiveSplit** for the autosplitter to work. If you forget, HASTE will complain on start-up and you need to go to the game settings and disable, then re-enable the autosplitter after starting the TCP server. ![](https://i.imgur.com/fJ63l6Z.png)
2. Follow the guide on [setting up the Speedrun mod](https://www.speedrun.com/HASTE_Broken_Worlds/guides/l23g8) to get the mod and set up your splits.

Setting up Speedrun Mod

'Landfall Speedrunning Tools' is a mod that is required if you want to submit to any leaderboard. It enables autosplitting, as well as run verification for random seed runs and the ability to use IGT/LRT (in-game/load removed time).

This guide exists to explain the usage of this specific mod. If you need help with LiveSplit or recording software, there are an endless number of tutorials out there so we won't be touching on them here.

The mod is loaded using Steam Workshop, which can be found [here](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3448839996). And the link also exists in the tools section of the [resources](https://www.speedrun.com/HASTE_Broken_Worlds/resources) tab on this page.

Once you have subscribed to, and downloaded the mod; launch HASTE along with LiveSplit and we'll go from there.

To start, you need to activate the autosplitter from settings. **If you don't see the speedrunning tab, that means you don't have the mod downloaded, or it downloaded incorrectly!**

Underneath you will see many settings that start with "Split on...". Only the start and end splits are required.
As per category rules, timing starts and ends at different points. For the two main categories, the *minimum* required settings are as follows:

- **For a full game run:** Timing starts when pressing "New game" from the main menu, and ends once you kill "The Machine". So in this case, you would need to enable **"Split on main menu play button" and "Split on end boss win"**

- **For an individual shard:** Timing starts when you enter the shard and ends when you kill that shard's boss. In this case, you would need to enable **"Split on start new run" and "Split on boss death", or "Split on end boss win" if running shard 10.**

## Explanation of each autosplitter setting

- **Fixed Seed** - Will set a seed automatically for each shard so you always get the same run
- **Autosplitter for LiveSplit** - Enables/Disables autosplitting
- **Split on death** - Splits when you die
- **Split on boss death** - Splits when you kill any boss before shard 10
- **Split on end boss win** - Splits when you kill shard 10's boss
- **Split on play node** - Nodes, also called fragments, are the circles you click on in a shard to enter a level. This splits when you enter one of them
- **Split on play boss node** - Same as on play node, but only for the final node of a shard
- **Split on run end** - After you kill the boss, when you start to transition out of the level is when it will split
- **Split on tutorial1 start** - Splits after loading into tutorial 1
- **Split on tutorial2 start** - Splits after loading into tutorial 2
- **Split on spawned in hub** - Splits after loading into the hub
- **Split on start new run** - Splits when you enter a shard
- **Split on main menu play button** - Splits as soon as you click the continue/new game button from the main menu

As mentioned at the top, this mod also enables IGT/LRT, which you can use by comparing against it in LiveSplit. To enable, right click on your timer and hover over the **'Compare Against'** option, and select **'Game Time'.**
