Hi everyone,
I am a Super Smash Bros Ultimate competitive player, and since the COVID pandemic hit, I wanted to look for something new to do. Thats when I became interested to get into a different type of competition: speedrunning. After deciding which game to speedrun, I decided to pick Super Mario 64, because it is the game that I have the most attachment to growing up and I
ve always been captivated by watching runs made by top level speedrunners. My concern is that I've been interested to try other speedrun games like Mario Odyssey and Sonic Adventure, but I dont want to come to the point that it
s too much.
My goal in speedrunning the game is not to necessarily aim for top level nor have the perfect setup to gain the most time save (like with Mario 64, top level competition is on N64, but I want to stick to EMU, bc despite loving Mario 64 to death, I am not willing to invest on an N64, cartridges and find a CRT TV just to play the game optimally), but I just want to be really competent at it (ex: finishing 120 stars under 2 hours, finish 70 stars under an hour, etc.).
My question basically is: Is it optimal to focus on max only 2 competitive games and being really optimal and great at them (SSBU and SM64 in my case) or can I pick another game to run later on?
Thanks. :D
I mean what do you want to do? It’s not like there’s a mathematical formula that says you can optimally run X number of games. Every single person is different; some can focus on running multiple games and be really good at all of them, others excel best when focusing on one game. There is no way that any of us here can tell you whether you should focus on 1 game, 2 games or 5 games. You need to figure out what works best for you and helps you reach your goals.
I simply want to master how these games are played at a really high level, but I dont want to aim to be the absolute best. But okay, good to know that there
s no restrictions. Thank you again for the answer. I really appreciate it.
I`ll try to figure out these answers. :)
