DISCLAIMER: I do not possess a super informed opinion. I'm just good at speedrunning, and I wanted to give my 2 cents:
First, As somebody who currently doesn't possess the ability to easily record my screen, I like that I can just use replay codes as proof. So I'm naturally against anything that would make submitting runs harder.
Second, I feel that if pause buffering were disallowed, it would be kinda hard to enforce. Obviously, there are likely signs and detection methods people not me could pick up on, and "hard to enforce" isn't really a good reason for banning it, but I do think it's worth thinking about.
Third, I think that pause buffering isn't in the spirit of speedrunning. However, I also think that me disagreeing with the ethics of a strategy is enough on its own to warrant a ban from the leaderboards.
In conclusion: There's a lot to consider. I don't know what the right answer is here, mainly because I want things from both sides on the coin. I'm excited to see other opinions. Sorry for the super long essay.
An additional thing to consider is whether or not older runs which used pause buffering should be grandfathered or not. On one hand if we grandfather them then that means that newer runs want to tie or beat these older runs will have a significantly harder time because the older runs are allowed to do something they can't. But on the other imagine working really hard on a run but then a year later, a run you sent got removed. That would seem really unfair. Enforceability is very hard though and truly impossible to detect cheating, but extremely repetitive inputs should be considered proof. We need stronger run verification due to the recent cheating scandal involved with @Sir_farcelot
pause buffering is good i think, i used it to side jump on level 5 for the first time and stuff
@bringupyourpost yeah, but it only helps you time your run better, which pretty much only removes a bunch of failed attempts, if you tas it on the other hand that is not allowed
WAIT wait is scratch down right now.
i cant get on the website if i am logged in. i can't log out now.. is it down for u too?
@bringupyourpost if you pause at a certain moment (using level 5 sidejumping as an example here) you can pause, then decide what you're going to do next, then unpause, then do that. On level 5, for example, you can pause buffer to time sidejumps better or to do a spike edge jump (If you don't know what those are, sidejumping is jumping up a singular wall using a walljump glitch, and spike edge is jumping on the very end of a spike (because the hitbox isn't a perfect triangle)
@SupaYoshiBro That gives way too much of an advantage. I agree with @pi314 when he says pause buffering is against the spirit of speedrunning.
Due to a recent cheating situation, I feel that top runs should have more proof.

Any top 10 full game runs now needs a video of at least 20 minutes of attempts submitted along with it.
-
any top 50% individual level submission now must have the replay code in the description or, if it's too lo
