Hey y'all, as you can see, we have now started going through your runs! There are quite a few in queue so please bear with us haha. I just thought I would put something here real quick to be transparent about how we are retiming your runs.
For retiming, I use https://vidtimer.com/. This allows me to accurately find the first and last frame of the run so that retiming is as accurate as possible.
For the start, I use the first frame when the monitor on the title screen goes white.
For the end, I use the first frame when The Creator's hands are visibly on screen, signalling the start of the ending cutscene. We decided to use this method instead since you are still able to freely move around after the 12th attack, and must walk forward to trigger the ending cutscene.
I can't wait to see what the boards will look like after all of the runs have been looked at.
UPDATE: Due to popular demand, we are looking into potentially changing up how we retime the ending. Instead of ending on when the hands appear, we are considering maybe ending on when the cursor disappears instead, a better indicator that the ending cutscene has started. The only issue we see with this method at the moment is that in some videos, the cursor is very difficult to see. I will update further when we have come to a definitive consensus.
UPDATE 2: We have decided to continue retiming on when the hands first appear. This is due to a few factors: a) In some videos, the cursor at the ending is very difficult, and sometimes even borderline impossible, to see. b) The timing between when the cursor first disappears and when the hands first appear is not 100% consistent: there is a variation of around 10 frames (0.16 seconds) that I have noticed when looking at this. So for those runs where the cursor is impossible to see, we cannot get a 100% certain retime, which could matter a lot for runs higher up on the leaderboard.
Hopefully this makes sense. If Nikson rolls out a patch where the ending cursor is much easier to see, we will consider this again. But for the meantime, retiming will stay as started.
