There are a TON of games on this site, I’m interested to see how obscure we can get, I currently moderate a 2018 Switch game that was on Coolmathgames.
What about you?
I used to speedrun a game called "A Bewitching Revolution", which literally just a walking simulator with task on. The "obscure" part is a premise / story of the game. It's about a communist witch that lives in a cyberpunk city, trying to make a revolution. 10/10 best storyline i've ever seen.
Probably this, though it was before I started recording my runs: https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/747798
If you mean games on the site, then it'd be either of the two where I'm the only runner so far.
@manztellen that sounds FASCINATING. Is there any optimization or major skips or is it literally just a walking sim
Much like emerald, most of the games I run are obscure. But special props to these two. https://www.speedrun.com/break_the_limits https://www.speedrun.com/worlds_end_chapter_1
I run a lot of scratch games, the most obscure ones would be here https://www.speedrun.com/ninja_roy_series
I guess most or all web games can be regarded as obscure?
@manztellen that sounds FASCINATING. Is there any optimization or major skips or is it literally just a walking sim
@Azantix the only optimization are character movement & how fast do you do the task. There's no major skips (up until now).
speed run 4 used to be obscure but now it's one of the largest games on this website so i don't think i run an obscure game anymore lol
Probably https://www.speedrun.com/minecraft_pi Its minecraft, on a pi, being speedrun....
By the way, what are we really defining as "obscure" games? Games on the site with very few amount of runners? Games with very few amount of "normal" players? Games that very few people have even heard of?
For example, many of the games I'm moderating are web games where I am the only runner, but on Kongregate site there are (or were) a niche of tenths of players that always do speedruns of the same games that I do, they just never bother recording any of it.
For another example, there is this game: https://www.speedrun.com/choppy_orc A game on the web that takes 2-3 minutes to complete, but have 180 runners over 1 year.
Well, you just answered my question with the same word that I want to define in the first place.
Was this thread created for me? :D
Come check us out on https://www.speedrun.com/treasure_galaxy . The Learning Company's many great games from the 90s are up on speedrun.com . Treasure Galaxy in particular needs more love. Come beat our records and join the fun! We are adding a 100%ish category shortly and perhaps a 3rd as well.
