Linux Alternatives for Livesplit & Nohboard (Timer & Input Display)
Trying to locate some for Linux (specifically running Linux Mint)
In short, I appreciate both of those on Windows, but as I'm stepping away from Windows ideally for now, I want to figure out alternatives to those two.
They do run on Linux, but Global Hotkeys don't seem to operate properly for either.
Hi ThatBox & fellow Linux-runner!
There are a couple of timers you can try. You'd have to see for yourself what suits you:
- molok <- That's the one I use currently. Works great & nice to have advanced statistics. Doesn't have a built-in editor, so you need to provide a lss-file (download from split.io or therun.gg).
- Livesplit one (browser): Does work, but needs the window active to register splits. I needed a workaround to capture it...
- Livesplit via wine: Installation is a hassle. Might work for you, for me it didn't.
- Llanfair <- has it's fair share of issues (pun intended!). Especially when resizing or doing large edits. Still I used that quite a lot before I changed to molok.
- Urn <- hasn't been updated in years. The interesting part is that you it is required for LibreSplit, an Linux autosplitter
- https://github.com/slashinfty/chronode <- never tried this one, no idea how good it works
- https://github.com/Toasterbirb/SeedSplit <- never tried this one, no idea how good it works
As for input display: do you need keyboard, gamepads?
- for keyboard I either use florence (should be available in the Mint store)
- or the OBS input plugin if it is less keys
- controllers: open joystick display
Have fun speedrunning on Linux!
