As the title states, should having someone help you take notes for a game that has note taking be allowed. The alternative being either writing down your notes on a piece of paper or alt tab and write them on a note pad.

Since OBS allows the user to only record game audio and mute their mic and Discord, it would be virtually undetectable compared to runs that don't have a 'human notepad'. There are also people who are skilled enough to memorize everything and don't have to take notes at all. So no visible difference would show in the runs.

Should it be allowed?

I don't really see the point of somehow trying to ban this. As you seem to realize yourself depending on the circumstances it is difficult to impossible to detect. Although my real point is that that runner still needs to perform the speedrun. An advantage on notes doesn't matter much imo if the runner can't perform according to the notes. There might be specific games where note-taking is more important than performing, but I've never heard/seen such a run.

Take Pokemon games as an example: in some categories people use additional software to determine hidden pokemon-specific values, the IV (or DV in gen 1) and the nature. (please forgive me if what I write isn't 100% correct, i'm not a pokemon expert) Very skilled ppl could calculate these values in their head. Instead of using the software somebody else could tell you what the values are. But the important part is to act according to these values. Would you disallow such software too?

I understand what your getting at but the analogy of using a program to calculate values doesnt feel right to compare to just writing basic information down.

However you do make a good point, at the end of the day its not the method of note taking that matters its the dedication and skills you bring to the run to acquire new PBs and WRs. And I know its virtually impossible to ban it but I've had multiple people in the community messaged me about it, so I wanted to get a second opinion from outside the game for a more SRC generic opinion, and thank you for that.
