I tested the Pica Pic emulator, and right from the start, among other inaccuracies, I got the tomahawk in the first room which is NOT possible on console. On Level 1, the TH is always in the second room, right path. Everything runs way faster than console. On second room, you can get a potion which is also impossible on console, and so on...
Is the port of it in Game & Watch Gallery 4 allowed? I just want to know before I run it.
I really want to allow it. It seems at first glance that it might be faster during the transition between levels but if there is too much difference maybe there will be a separate category for G&W Gallery.
So Is Game & Watch Gallery 4 banned or not? Or a different category?
It will be allowed. However, if it turns out that there are significative differences between the original console and the Game & Watch Gallery 4 version, a seperate LB will be created.
Hi there I’ve been running this game for a couple of weeks on both the original game and watch and the game boy advance version. Transition times are significantly different between the levels. You can also defeat the bottom screen enemy significantly quicker on gba. I shall post two separate runs this week, hopefully you can separate game boy advance runs and original game and watch runs into two leaderboards? On average I’m saving around 47 seconds playing it on game boy advance!! Thanks!
I'm definitely ok with a category split. If this is something we all agree on, I can do this. Now is an awful time for me, but if I don't get to it soon, just give me a poke and I'll set some time aside to take a closer look.
This board was abandoned by the previous super mod, so when I inherited it I didn't change anything. I'm willing to.
I can agree with this split. I tried reaching WR on real game & watch again months ago, and couldn't even get close.. G&W classic compared to GBA is time loss, even slightly.. it builds over time the whole runs.
Personally I feel the Pica Pic emulator version should be allowed as its own listing here. The original super mod was for banning things 100%, as opposed to just making things their own specific category.
I don't own the game and watch anymore. I can't unlock the GBA version because G&W gallery 4 sucks, and is way to much work to unlock a hidden game.
The Pica Pic version, while not 100% accurate in layout, would make the game a lot more inviting to play for more people. Its obvious when someone is playing the Picapic version... so why not have it included?
Ah if only. Sadly because Adobe flash is now dead, pica pic is unplayable online. Unless you had flash installed previously I suppose. So your only options now folks are the gba advance version and the original game and watch. And yes unlocking Zelda on the gba version is an absolute nightmare!!
And JSR I’ll be uploading two vids later this week. A gba video and an original game and watch video. Hopefully there will be two leaderboards, gba and original game and watch? Perhaps a picapic leaderboard too as the game is very different? Watch this space....
I don't think we should include the emulator on the board (and I'm all for a compelling argument as to why it should be allowed). According to the research done a few years ago, the game does not play true to the original hardware. However, if there's enough people that feel like one SHOULD be made, I'll do what the community wants :)
UPDATE: On further analysis, despite the inaccuracies of the PicaPic emulator, I think it can be added as a seperate category. This way, at the very least folks that cannot play the original hardware (and can't or won't unlock the G&W game on GBA) can at the least speedrun the game.
I will retroactively be approving the fastest run ever submitted to this board that was done on PicaPic. As of this moment, this board will only allow that emulator. This run will also be the only one on the board, as checking the audit logs, it is the only run ever submitted using PicaPic.
I've heard the entire run of flash Game & Watch titles have been archived prior to flash expiration date. Finding a way to play them back via dedicated software with the files is yet still a future possibility for the run being viable for more people to play it.
The pica version is inaccurate with item placements. I can understand the original mods intentions with keeping it "Banned" in regards of comparison with the original version.
But outright not allowing it for its own listing/category, I feel was not the answer either... I have yet to see a low% or both quests.. I have done both quests once, but deathless both quests I have yet to achieve. Low % is painful, but the real challenge run for optimizing... I feel pica could be a much more inviting category for any% players, and help the game get some more runs.
I see the new subcategories now, and think its a great layout, and having structure based on physical version differences also invites people to try out each viable version. Pica for those who can't access the GBA version or physical G&W. The next step on GBA for those who enjoy the run.
I feel like the GBA version, especially with recent resource, is about to be hype! :D
