Emulation?

Hey y'all, so I just WR'd in Hardcore% (run starts at 7:30), .

I don't really want to submit it though, because it's prima facie clear that Snail lost time due to running on original hardware, whereas I'm emulating the game on a cloud-based PC lol. I believe I would be clear to do so deontologically, but it seems... problematic.

Thoughts?

Alright mate? I never saw this, my bad. It's a tricky one. I think personally I'd say from now on we can pause timer on black screens and loading screens and saving, that seems to be the best way to optimise it, but it's still a pain to actually implement.

don't matter for the moment anyhow considering that post has been lost to the void lol

they apparently allow emulation on the SVR boards and have explicitly said there's time save on emulation so /shrug

Yeah fair enough. In that case it's best to assume you're going to incur a slight time loss from playing on real hardware and just deal with it 😂 So the rules remain the same and if you want to submit runs on emu they'll be counted as normal from now on

I think this conversation may need to start again, I just got a 9:36 on WWF% but easily lost 20 seconds to load times over current WR (despite running consistent 60fps on a computer running an i7-10700k and RTX 2080ti w/ 32GB RAM), had faster match times by cumulatively 24 seconds over the current WR, (2 seconds ahead during match 1, 25 seconds ahead during match 2, 3 seconds behind during match 3). Even without further adjudicating load time, that would put the current WR at 9:09.81. It sorta kills the purpose of a speedrun if emulation settings or hardware can preclude someone from placing higher hence forth I never uploaded this hardcore% run.

Im not too clued up on stuff like this so I dont know how much I could add to the topic but I did my run on a PS3. I wouldnt have an issue with the leaderboard listing with loads and without loads but I can see it being off-putting for people who would want to run it.

It's tricky, cos there's not too many of us, and it'd be a nightmare trying to cut load times out of every video hahah. The only other way is to separate them into PS2 and Emulated categories, but then I don't think that's a great solution either. I guess the only way to make it proper fair is to remove load times, but how to implement that is another story.

I guess the other way, is to make the speedrun based on cumulative match times, and the time spent free roaming - based on the time shown on the timer when the referee counts 3. Of course that removes the menu quickness, but we're all pretty rapid on the menus and doubt you save much time in them comparatively, by hammering X tbh.

If that's amenable to you two, I'd consider that a majority, and would be happy to adjust the leaderboard accordingly given some time, and update the rules. Rules would be as follows: "

Run is comprised of adding up all time spent in-game. This is: Sum of time spent in free roam + Sum of time spent in matches. Times are to be noted based on the in game timer shown in matches and in free roam. Remember that in free roam, the time is counting down.

"

Let me know what you think.

For reference, I just checked the in game timers of the top three runs for WWF% and they are as follows:

Jaggy timers: Free roam: 01:52 (8 seconds) Match 1: 0:53 Match 2: 1:07 Match 3: 1:02

Total: 3:10

Ramsay timers: Free roam: 1:51 (9 seconds) Match 1: 0:51 Match 2: 0:42 Match 3: 1:04

Total 2:46

Tom's timers: Free roam: 1:49 (11 seconds) Match 1: 0:46 Match 2: 0:34 Match 3: 1:37

Total 3:08

Failing that, I'm also happy to just cut load times out before approving your runs. Either or. What do you reckon?

Listen its hard to believe it but people are actually talking about me and Sunny, Who is closest to a WWF title WR. Face it your washed up.

I think taking the in game timers is probably the best compromise while keeping it accessible but its up to Sunny whatever hes comfortable with. I had no idea I had such an advantage with loads times but il happily make a few new runs.

We'll have to apply the standard to other categories as well.

But yeah, this is basically how Spongebob BFBB Rehydrated does it which heavily standardizes the actual play times. I may suggest this to the mods of the other boards as well, however it's probably only truly feasible with a game with such short runs like JBI.

This will so happen to also improve your time too Tom lol

Okay, no problem. I'll get to work amending the categories, the rules and the times of every run sheesh hahah. Should be done soon. Sorry to dethrone you Jaggy, I'm sure you'll bring it back ;) I'm going to suggest you still time your runs as normal, and I'll include the timer as like an extra statistic - that way, you can see if you're losing time due to your matches, or due to something else like hardware/menuing.

Good chat friends :D

Btw I don't know if it was you who found it Jaggybabs but that Bubba Cutter is a hella time save 😮

At this point i think iv probably tested every move in the game, Been going for that slobberknocker record for like 2 weeks, one of the toughest runs iv done in a wrestling game. Hoping that max stat trick you posted can help with it, i thought it didnt work but il try it again.
