Please don't rehost someone's runs when they seemingly don't want them publicly available, thanks

Very late reply (sorry), but if you go into livesplit, open the splits editor window, and set the game to Super Meat Boy, you should see a line of text in the window that says auto splitting is available.

https://i.imgur.com/jKUB1dv.png

From there you can activate/deactivate it and change the autosplitter settings by hitting the buttons, etc

hi, nice to see you're interested.

bandage dupe is performed by playing a warp zone level repeatedly. if you press the space bar on your keyboard after you beat the level, you'll see the standard replay screen even though you're in a warp zone (but not for long, because it's still transitioning to the next level). from there you can press the replay level button to play the warp zone level twice in a row (or more). if you get bandages each times, congrats, you've duped. the timing is a bit tight, since you have to hit both buttons before the level transitions, but it's not terribly difficult.

it has to be the space bar specifically. even if you remap keyboard jump elsewhere, or are using a controller, you will still need to press the space bar. this is why the glitch doesn't work on consoles. it's fine if you use software (joy2key) to remap space to an unused button on a controller though.

you can check "A Wrong Warp to Chapter 6 - The End Guide" over in the guides section on SRC if you want a second explanation.

replay glitches are a class of glitch. there's several different things you can do with them, but none are thought to be useful in any% ww (unless you count bandage duping as one), so don't worry about it.

Disabling showing the platform & replacing it with a new variable would work in context of viewing the LBs, but then you'd have two subtly different 'platform' variables when you go to submit a run.. problem is not entirely eliminated, unfortunately.

Can you tell me more about what searches a custom platform entry would break? At least in this particular case, searching by game would be unaffected (meatboy would still show up as a PC game), and the only thing I can think of that it would break would be, on a run page, clicking the "PC" part of "Played on PC on Aug 18 2020" -- which, let's be real, I couldn't really tell you why that's a link to begin with.

just taking a moment to pop in & make sure that our custom platforms feature request is included in the proper place after all https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/ds1z2/1#y7pdy . gonna c/p the text over here too. sorry for making a new thread.

hi, i have a couple feature requests I would like to see added. The context for these requests is the meatboy leaderboards https://www.speedrun.com/smb

first up: we would like to be able to reorder the submission platform list or change the default. The current default platform for meatboy, the wii u, happens to be one of the least popular consoles for submissions, and people forget to change it surprisingly often. it'd be nice to cut down that rate.

second up: adding custom platforms. We would like to be able to represent a patch version this way.

I suppose that requires explanation, since the typical way to show patch versions is to just make a patch variable (or ignore it & let ppl eat any timeloss). Well, the game is not being actively patched. For the vast majority of platforms the game is on, the latest version is effectively the only version.

pc version did get a substantial patch not too long ago. We now have v1.2.5, which is ~10-15 seconds slower in any%. Most people downpatch, but the old patch doesn't run properly on some computers (fixing this was a primary reason for new patch, actually). So a few ppl, mostly either new players or ppl with tech issues, run v1.2.5 anyways. Ideally we would like this represented on the leaderboards.

We would prefer not to create a 'patch' variable. For the vast majority of platforms, there is only one patch. In that sense, a patch variable would be visual clutter at best, and actively confusing to some new players at worst. Instead, since we are forced to show the platform variable anyways (? correct me if I'm wrong), it'd be easiest and cleanest from our perspective to just stick a "PC (v1.2.5)" in the platform list and be done with it.

so yeah, it'd be sweet if these could happen. thanks for listening.

Hi everyone, I'm removing the aftermath IL chapter page from the main IL boards. For context, aftermath forest is a set of custom levels. The problem is that a set of custom levels doesn't really belong on the main page, and especially not if no other custom chapters are being featured.

In the meantime, if you wish to view the runs that were submitted, I've catalogued them below for the time being. I'm not sure if the SRC run links will still work after their parent category has been deleted, but at least the youtube links should be fine. It's least I can do, since it's kinda unfortunate that their work is otherwise being orphaned like this.

Hopefully we can eventually restore these runs to a real custom levels leaderboard..

In the end, we've chosen to implement a clips subcategory for the IL leaderboards, and allow steve/meat ninja/dr. fetus on it. My apologies to ppl who primarily check these forums, but most of the discussion did end up on the discord anyways.

in any case, feel free to submit runs now :)

this thread was created with the hope that more discussion would happen here, because it's easy for things to get lost in the discord. as it turns out, a lot of discussion is happening in the discord anyways. i'm going to post what i wrote there, re: my current thoughts rn.

  1. i do not want naija clips to be allowed on the main boards, and current rules prohibit clips in general
  2. it is very hard to propose playing steve w/o clips. and even without them, he could still do many of the same things that make people recoil from naija clips, but better and without any of the pseudo-rng that accompanies naija clips
  3. the catext all chars (including glitch chars) + clips IL boards idea that's coalescing seems neat, and also sounds like something that's less likely to starve for attention than the dual IL boards did (although tbh it will still take a substantial hit in traffic, and that's practically unavoidable on some level, should we choose to go through with it)
  4. if the question was just meat ninja by himself, i'd probably be strongly advocating for him to be on the main boards, but said catext board might be a better place?
  5. regardless of where any of these chars end up, it seems that all of them (including glitch chars) have at least some level of interest and should be /somewhere/, and that we should've had this conversation a long time ago
  6. i strongly disagree with the idea that was raised a couple times, about splitting the IL boards up permanently such that there is no combined IL table (by, for example, going from a character variable to subcategories). it would be unwieldly, look ugly, & i am very convinced the combined table draws interest to characters further down the list, because people are reminded they exist and at the very least, if some given individual really does only want to play the record character, that char is more likely to vary by level than if they had to go manually hunting through 20 different submenus themselves. and we'd still have to pick a default character for the view, and no pick would be fair
United Statesvorpal3 years ago

yo, so it's been brought up that the characters meat ninja and steve are currently not allowed on the IL leaderboards. The purpose of this thread is to solicit thoughts as to whether that should change.

I'm 99.9% certain that the original reason for them being disallowed is a holdover from the ingame LBs, where steve & meat ninja times are not counted (presumably because they get to go straight through walls or obstacles, respectively). But the only thing I can say for sure is that it was already collectively agreed upon before I joined the community, and I've been around longer than most.

If you don't know what Steve can do, you can check this sweet segmented vid from resident steve superfan watchurbaq:

Similarly, for meat ninja you can check this showcase by SupBro

Nah, that's it, really. I don't have much more to say in this post. Should the two characters be allowed on the IL boards? If you have opinions, let us know :)

(if you are curious as to what I think: they absolutely should have a place for ILs, and I'm guessing there was kind of a chicken-and-egg situation beforehand, where this discussion could have (should have) happened earlier, but nobody was interested in actually doing runs, because it wasn't allowed. I'm not necessarily convinced the best place is on the main IL boards. I don't want to write something long right now because I have no real strong opinions either way)

kinda surprising that you can play sekiro @ 4k60 but streaming takes 30% cpu. idk what your setup is, but if you're using x264 as your video encoder, swapping to one of the dedicated hardware encoders (nvidia's nvenc >>> quicksync >>>>>>>>>>>>>> amd's amdvce or w/e its called) can take a lot of load off your cpu as well

team meat recently did some server maintenance, and part of that involved shutting down the old Super Meat World server. When they patched the pc version of meatboy to version 1.2.5, they rewrote Super Meat World and set up a new server for it. However, the version most of us play on, ogversion, still used the old server. In the past few days, that server was taken down permanently.

This means that, because ogversion is hardcoded to connect to a specific IP on launch, we're gonna have some issues.

WHAT THIS IS

when you try to launch the game, the game will be stuck at the initial loading screen (before the intro cutscene) for a period of up to several minutes, before finally displaying an SQL server error and continuing as normal, with disabled online functionality (no super meat world or ingame leaderboards).

as of this writing, this applies to the original windows version ('ogversion') as well as the Mac and Linux versions. This does not apply to v1.2.5 on pc. The console versions use their platform's online functionality and are also not affected (& never had super meat world anyways).

HOW TO FIX

thanks to 6DPSMETA / DEFEAT for the fix. We just have to block the game in a firewall. For windows, follow this guide https://www.minitool.com/news/block-program-with-windows-firewall-009.html and create a rule that blocks supermeatboy.exe from accessing all networks.

I'm not familiar with Mac and Linux, but a similar approach should work for yall too. Feel free to post any successes you have and I'll edit the instructions in.

This fix will make the game throw the SQL server error immediately at launch, instead of you having to wait an indeterminate amount of time. From there, you'll be able to continue normally. All of the online functionality, however, will be permanently disabled.

Tommy's mentioned that a patch is planned for the Mac and Linux versions, to bring them to v1.2.5, but it's not being actively worked on (didnt say why, but its a safe bet they're busy with smbforever). Patches for ogversion itself (to make it compatible with the new meat world server) are not planned. If you want to play super meat world, v1.2.5 is going to be the only way to do it.

personally i dont really care whether full-page backgrounds come back or not -- i'm just not fond of having a surprise 30 minutes of work dropped on me to make my game's page look ""decent"" again. however, please don't bring animated backgrounds back. let them continue to die a cold, lonely death. they look awful & caused the fans to spin up on my old laptop.

the leaderboards already have a category wherein you load a chapter and just play straight through levels 1 through 20. you can find the category for each world by clicking level leaderboard, selecting the chapter, and then selecting "individual world" from the list.

however, it seems like race mode on the switch is rather different from that. this puts us in a bind, since nobody on the mod team actually has a switch, so we're hearing about race mode second-hand.. can you detail the glitch you found?

hi, i'm adding old runs to src so that the wr progression on the meatboy game stats page is accurate. see here http://www.speedrun.com/smb/gamestats

Problem is that many of the early runs for the 106% category in this game are from the same unregistered user, Takujiz. I want to update some links, but I can't figure out how to access his older runs. I can't click on the run on the game stats page, but if I attempt to check this runner's profile to see all his old runs, I can't, because he's unregistered and doesn't have one. I can only access his current pb.

What can I do?

also, now that i think of it, you should check to see whether the subsplits plugin comes bundled with livesplit by default
