ignore them You do not understand what "toxic" means. Toxic isn't just another word for "bad". Toxic users can not be ignored because they can completely destroy a community.

I am a manager in a gaming site and I have experience with these toxic users which are in every gaming community. They are usually lonely unemployed males with various mental disorders, they are drowning in real life and trying to drag everyone with them. They are few but they have an impact regardless due to their extreme dedication and the time they can put into it. They actively try to spread their negativity to others by any mean. They can also gather in groups online and act in an organized and sustained way to harass individuals or groups. I have heard them say things like "if everyone is toxic, then no one is toxic" so they can act with a real agenda.

A perfect example would be the comments left in the first videos of the "Skyrim grandma". Things like "something tells me she won't see the end of this run" or "why don't you knit in your rocking chair". Not only shows their complete lack of morals but the toxic comments were clearly aimed at getting her disgusted and quit youtube.

So no, toxic users can not just be ignored by community managers. They are a threat that must be taken seriously.

@Brakshow

I understand and respect your point of view, but how do you make the difference between someone who had a bad day and someone who has a bad life in general and will remain toxic indefinitely?

Also there is a limit to the drama staff members can sustain over the time. At first we're all patient and comprehensive but over the years, as the staff deal with people who abuse their good will, it is understandable that patience eventually runs out. How would you prevent that from happening? Do you have any experience on the matter?

I think I understand the site better now, it has groups moderated by group owners which have their own dedicated forums. That would explain why I haven't seen too much drama in the site forum and why the site manager doesn't get overwhelmed by it, and I think I've seen how they deal with it when it casually happens in the site forum, with an instant ban.

first thing you did after joining the site is complain you have completely missed the point, I have never complained about anything at any point, I am asking a management question to website managers. I am myself a website manager. if you are not part of the site management team please skip this thread, you can not help me.

You've been here 6 hours. if you mean to say the community is toxic then how do the mods manage to contain it?

I'm surprised to not see too much drama around here. Gaming communities are usually very toxic, some are toxic beyond repair.

I am very curious to know how you manage to contain toxic users and their neverending disputes, drama, insults, threats, suicide porn, ddos attacks and so on...
