So.. I finally pulled the trigger and attempted a speed run.

I feel it's an unusual one, but I'm working to do Clayfighter Tournament Edition on SNES on Hard.

It's only 11 different fights.. I get to the 5th or 6th one and choke every time. I feel I was making good times, not record breaking.. Never could get past those 2. I'm just looking to place on the board since it only has 1 run.

I have a question in all this.. how much practice goes into your runs?

I feel I'm not doing so bad right now.. I just have to get over the half way mark. I put in over 30-40 tries tonight. It got so bad that I was dying on the first person.. I'll try again tomorrow and see what happens!

I had another question. Does playing a Gameboy game on the Super Gameboy count as emulation or regular hardware?

So I played around with the El Gato a little yesterday. I downloaded OBS. I had a lot of fun playing with that. I couldn't get my ps4 to hook up through my El Gato.. but could get the Switch to work.. not sure what the deal was. I was just testing it to learn how it worked. I hope to do a test run with an older console like SNES today. Just in case I plan on streaming ps4.. does anyone have any advice on why I couldn't get it to pull up on the screen? I used the same HDMI cords for the Switch and it worked perfect.

I'm taking a step into the speed running world. I have a few games in mind to try.

I wanted to list off the equipment to see if I missed anything.

I got the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S

an HDMI splitter

and a RCA to HDMI

So my plan is to go from lets say.. SNES to computer

SNES A/V Cords > RCA to HDMI convertor

HDMI Convertor > HDMI Splitter

HDMI Splitter will go to tv and elgato

Elgato > Computer

I have a webcam and a mixer for audio (for the podcast, I didn't just buy that)

Am I missing anything? Any suggestions? I'm new.. so any advice I'll happily take

Hello, my name is Toby. Let me get this out of the way before I ask my questions. I run a retro video game review podcast called Secret Levels. We talk about the production history, story, speed runs, game play, fun facts, and more on one game per episode.

In research for the games I always use speedrun.com to find out who has the fastest time on whatever game we're reviewing and give them a small shout out and their time.

We just recorded episode 35 last night. Over this time doing the show I've become very interested in attempting to speedrun a few games.

My issue is.. where do I start.. how do I record myself. I want to use original hardware: snes, sega genesis, n64, ect.

I also would like to stream it and other game play from like the switch. I just don't know what equipment and programs I need.

If anyone would help me out I would be very appreciative.
