Is it a rule that the time spent on adverts don't count, or is turning off internet for the device allowed?

I'm trying to just do the Any% category but every time I do the thing that Chadwelli does I kill myself in the first text part, after the bang has happened, and then I do the spam z + hold r thing, and then what happens is I get taken to a time trial screen, saying that I got rank nothing because I took 0 seconds got 0 Trinkets and 1 death, I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I've attempted this many times, sometimes I will get taken into the Teleporter Depot room <- i think thats the name anyway.
