If you're having the problem where you can't show your timer on stream while playing Vice City on fullscreen. Here's a possible solution
- Get DxWnd
- Add your Vice City profile and try to match this
- Set your W/Livesplit to Always on Top
Once you open your game with dxwnd open, alt-tab to your timer and it should be able to overlay your game.
Now, depending on your desired setup, you might need to cutback on a few things to avoid any inconvenience—not having too many splits or just having it too big— Here are a few dead-spots that are labeled in pink.
You usually won't need these areas in-game (I left the top left corner free because tool tips are actually useful in some instances).
just buy another monitor, you Virginia city that looks like cheapskate
Not sure if this would go to the "Streaming" tab but I highly doubt it.
Would it be a good idea to add stream filters like how Speedrunslive has [nosrl] or a thing where you can view streams that are listed based on the games you've submitted? The second suggestion would be quite neat to be honest.
E: This is just something to consider, some people might be using speedrun.com as a way to just advertise their channel even when they don't speedrun nor have any relevance to speedrunning. Again, just something to think about.
I thinking about it last night and it seems that everyone has a different timing method. I couldn't think a good, logical timing method.
For the time being, i'm going to use the IGT method which is when you gain of control of Postal Dude instead of the mapping.
Re-timing on the leaderboards soon. Any questions or comments leave a reply.
I apologize if this was already mentioned before but this might be faster a bit faster and consistent than just doing going again only to mess it up once again.
(Might work with forwards duping as well).
Basically, Jump, hit F3, wait 'til Tommy's landing animation to start then F3 again. Be sure to be at the very left of the marker otherwise you'll trigger the phonecall. ¤¤Note that the intention is only if you were to early too hit the mission marker¤¤ (although if you want to make it a personal way of duping go ahead).
E: Waiting until Tommy's landing animation is really tight, activate a bit earlier, messing (early) up isn't a bigger deal than the backwards/forward duping.
I usually don't make New Year's Resolutions, but I looked back at 2014. I had many personal projects in mind: GTAX, BD:DFBF, and finally GTA Long Night mod Segmented run. Never got to work on any of these projects as much because I was afraid that I was going to fall behind on my main speedruns.
So I present to you, the Long Night mod segmented run.
Managed to beat my estimate by 5 minutes. This was kind of rushed because I had other work to do, but it doesn't have many major mistakes. I might come back and finish a proper segmented run for this mod but for now, enjoy.
Final time:
0:38 (IGT) 41:37 (RTA)
For those who've played the mod or seen it, the mission "Showing Off" only took 2 tries (ironic because I abandoned the project because of it). Although "Dead Drop Rush" took ~5.
Since i've been running games that requires a much higher sensitivity, i've been using a DPI of 600 for both my desktop and games. Of course a DPI like this would be hell to get used to for Vice City, so I used the Y-Axis Fix from the pcgamingwiki, but there's a problem; everytime you start a new game and changes you've made to the mouse sensitivity resets back to normal. I came up with a solution, taking a retail game save and everytime I reset, I load the game and it resets the game and keeps the mouse sensitivity changes.
My question(s) are: • Would this be considered cheating? • Is reloading this game save considered NG+?
Thanks.
I'm so sorry that I submitted that run. I just made this to clear up any thoughts that I was attempting to cheat you guys. I thought on IRC I asked how to do the rampage skip without NG+ but I got an answer that was a NG+ strategy. Its pretty much my bad on my part for not realizing it was NG+. Sorry for the lies I spread.
-Guy.
Bored of doing attempts so I made this.
Any questions, corrections and/or concerns, post it on the thread or leave a comment on the video.
This video is mainly aimed at peps who are new to Vice City speedrunning. But if you struggle with SSA in general this hopefully can help you.
Guy, out.

Update: This strat may be inefficient. You would have to open the door again when you do "Cabmageddon".
In the winter of 2013, FalloutJord was testing a little strat (seen on the right) and asked me about it. The strat was later given up on due to timing difficulties.
Here I time the fade-in to the entrance of the multistory. The start is synced btw, not sure why it doesn't look synchronized. Also the parking was a bit far away I'll admit, but it looks a tad bit faster, imo.
Reasoning for not timing it all the way to the Stallion is because going up the ramps isn't the same for everyone. Also the reasoning for not timing from the very start is because of loading times and again, the timing will be different for everyone.
After the many heated discussions about the Replay trick on #gta and on many streams, (Apart from SDA of course), will there be any separate categories or any exceptions for this replay thingy? Will a run using this trick still fall into the same category as a normal any% run? What's up?
After watching Half-Life 21, it hit me like a slippery fish that there should be a team segmented run of 3. From the title "Grand Theft Auto X", the goal is sub 1:10 [RTA].
Instead of the usual 4 segments and then switching players then, I want know if it's anyway possible to switch players during cutscenes. (Eg. After done with "The Pick-Up", the person saves and gives the save to another person) I'm aware that player transition sounds like I'm asking for too much (but hey, i'm just throwing it out there).
There's many things to add but I would love to see any questions, comments and concerns about this 'project'
Thanks.

It has been improved by Paddy (or Patrick) and I want everyone's opinion/improvements to this trick.
Thanks, -Guy
