I am personally for separating the boards (I believe I was actually the one who suggested it the last time we discussed it). But it is, unfortunately, an inactive category of runs which generally requires a lot of extra time for the moderators to approve, versus PC runs. The community at large is also mostly uninterested in creating tools to reduce our workload (i.e., well-tested visual-based autosplitters for console runs).
The other moderators definitely won't accept vague expressions of interest from people who might run the category as enough interest to change their stances, though. We have had similar discussions about adding new boards, and approval has always required runners to prove their interest with recorded runs. One such board still hasn't been added months later because not even 3 people have had enough interest in it to finish a run.
As with any larger speedrun community, if you want board changes, you need to drum up others' interest and prove it's there by having them also do runs, etcetera. As they say, be the change you want to see.
