The previous Discord server was hacked so I've created a new one. https://discord.gg/EDAsVq63TW Third time's the charm.
Our recording requirements follow the Speedrun.com site rules for submitting a run as well as the google document which is listed under the rules for each category. I encourage you to read those for yourself but here is the relevant info about recording.
Recording Requirements/Recommendations
- The video must be of a reasonable enough viewing quality to see everything going on in the game.
- It is always recommended to have game audio playing. Lack of game audio may be grounds for a run getting rejected.
- Gratuitous frame drops may be grounds for rejection.
- Game capture should be the proper 4:3 aspect ratio.
- Recommended to always include the reset/power on from the previous run in your submission.
- While not required for every run, it is highly recommended that runs are livestreamed.
For emulator users
- It is preferred that the entire emulator window is captured, to help prove the emulator being used.
- Recommended to use input display, frame counter and have “No Movie” showing to help prove legitimacy.
An easy way to get started is to play on an emulator like Mesen or FCEUX and record with OBS.
I just noticed that the Game Boy version of Yoshi has its own leaderboard. Game Boy platforms should probably be removed from this leaderboard.
I imagine that we would see an incredibly optimized B-Type level 1 run that would kill the category straight away. I'd like to see this kind of thing for A-Type though.
My latest run used this method and it got verified so I guess it's acceptable.
No, since you aren't able return to the start screen.
I worked out another way of wrong warping to the princess' chamber (kind of). I'm wondering if it would be considered acceptable in an actual speedrun.
With this method you write the instruction JMP $8FE3 with koopa shells instead of JSR $8FE3. The final cutscene plays out mostly normally but after the curtain is lowered and raised again the screen just stays black while music plays. The game technically doesn't crash but it does softlock in the end. By my reading of the rules this would seem to be allowed.
