The Discord server took a bit of a redesign today, and I'm hoping we have more active discussions in it from now on. Come visit us! Link in the first post is still valid.

Old post, but just mentioning for those who stumble upon it later:

In the Resources tab for this game, you'll find a tool named "B&E Downloader". This tool will allow you to install any version of Ben and Ed that was published on Steam. It uses another tool named Depot Downloader to grab the manifests of the game from Steam itself.

It requires a valid Steam account with a license to the game already to use.

Like TailsOnly said, the Saturn version doesn't allow for the weather to be altered.

Just for the record, any run that is submitted using this version is not valid until further testing is done. Any change or modification of the game by an outside program is obviously not allowed.

Hello everyone,

I decided to create a Discord so that more short-hand conversation can be held. The forum is a great place to communicate, but things like assisting other runners or discussing rules and strategies is better off being on a more instant platform.

https://discord.gg/vvfuUjG

Join and ping me so that I can add your role (runner, and what platform) and maybe we can get things active.

Congratulations to @bertin, who will be running Sonic R at SmashTheRecord this year. 100% no out of bounds is the category.

Keep your eyes peeled. 6th game.

Check the schedule here: http://www.smashtherecord.com/speedrunning/

I appreciate entirely the work put in so far and I know the system isn't really working with us so we'll take what we can have. It is better than nothing (although I'm very happy with what we have).

Oh one more thing. This is strictly using the Time Attack mode correct? Rules didn't mention, but it would make a huge difference on times.

Any way to clean that up by chance? I would love to help but unfortunately I can't do so.

Looks good, Metal Knuckles is missing though. Console and Platform on the submissions page appear to be the same thing too.

Are emulators permitted? I don't know about the effects of using them in this case.

Also, is there any plan to implement reverse/balloon/tag?

Hi there.

I'm throwing out an suggestion for IL times. As far as character selection and OoB preference goes, it should definitely be up for discussion.

The Sonic Center has been home for Sonic R ILs for a long time, but certain things make it undesirable.

¤ Lack of video proof needed. ¤ Lack of separation between OoB and not. (I've asked about it in TSC IRC, and IIRC they shrugged me off.)

A few other things also, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

It would be up to the moderators if they would want to add significant times already present on The Sonic Center, but I imagine if anyone was proud of their time they would be willing to submit it manually if they were told about it. That and most of the IL times are already covered by Keverage and bertin.

Thanks!

Personally don't see why the "Sonic Moderation group" was involved considering most of them have not played Sonic R.

I first want to point out that I've never been happy with the decision to go to IGT for Sonic R. Keverage has always been the same, and we can back each other up on this. Personally, I was never told we were moving to the new system, and it has been my #1 reason for not playing this game like I used to. I'll try to make my post short because I feel Bertin has explained more than well enough my opinions on this matter.

I think IGT was a mistake from the start, and the first thing that should have been considered was either banning PC outright (which isn't a great idea, people who don't have the GC version shouldn't not be allowed to submit a time just because they only have the version we don't approve of) or separating the leaderboards by platform. Keep in mind I don't like either one of these solutions, but I would think of these before IGT.

I want to express that regardless of what we do, PC should be forced to stay on the IGT ranking system. It runs differently on different systems, runs differently if you're capturing the game, version you're playing, etc.

This has been known for quite a while, and has some uses in the run already. The person who found it, @Yashichi - named it Ragrolling.

How would this rule will be enforced, considering most co-op runners don't stream; they have one team member who does.

You're much better off staying with the Gamecube version.

I would think the most popular version is the Xplosiv version, but I'm not sure. I don't know what version I'm using, but I think it's the absolute original.

I also agree. The separation of PC from all other versions would be the best option as to not alienate people who still want to run on PC. Unfortunately, I don't believe it will completely balance out the PC version as there are many variants and they all run different on different hardware. The best way in this case would simply be to force runners to use one specific version. (Xplosiv, ValuSoft, etc)

I found a version of the game used by a runner that I've never seen before.

On the left is what the character select looks like on the PC version, and the Sonic Gems Collection version. (on both Gamecube and PS2) The version on the right is unknown to me because the Saturn version doesn't look like that. Anyone have a clue?
